Had this beer on tap at Shady's in Biloxi. This is my first beer from Lazy Magnolia since I moved here a little under a month ago from a place with a vastly superior availability of beer.
The beer arrived in your standard pint glass with the remnants of a head on the top. I'm not sure how they can call this beer a brown ale because I've had Pale Ales that were darker. I'll blame it on the alcohol cap for now.
After a good long time smelling this beer nothing really stood out to me. There were some alcohol smells that I picked up but aside from that it didn't seem to have much going on that you can't pick up from any other beer.
Upon first taste it wasn't too bad. It has a fairly light flavor and isn't off putting at all. The flavors were fairly sweet maple syrup with a hint of nuts and no bitterness to speak of at all. After a couple sips I couldn't help but feel that I had tried a beer that tasted quite similar to this. After a couple minutes it hit me that this beer tastes like a watered down version of Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown. I didn't particularly like Fireside Nut Brown because it was far too sweet for my liking, so to me Southern Pecan would win if I had to choose between the two.
Overall the taste was decent but it seems to be a little too subtle all the way around instead of having a full flavor.
This beer was thin in the mouth and didn't seem to have a lot of carbonation going on.
Drinkability is decent. this beer lacks a significant punch in both the alcohol and flavor department but the sweetness was enough for me to only want one of these.
This beer hasn't put me off of Lazy Magnolia and I'm interested to see what their other offerings can bring to the table.

Pours a deep amber brownish color with nice clarity. A bit on the reddish side for a brown ale. No head at all present. The nose starts with some brown bread, oatmeal, and light nutty notes. Not sure that I would pick the nuttiness out as pecan, but there is definitely some influence from the adjuncts. Taste is watery with nutty notes and hints of grain. No hops noted in the flavor but some bitterness at the finish makes for an unpleasant finish. Mouthfeel is light and low carbonation. Overall, this beer is not well executed. It tastes like a really light watery beer with some adjunct flavors added. Would not return to this beer.
