Notes/Commercial Description:
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Thanks to Skuter for sharing this one at his tasting.

Best by 3/7/13.

Pours a clear brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt and toasted nut aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is fairly mild and drinkable.

Had one of these 2 nights ago at O'Henry's in Metairie (New Orleans).

Light brown with tinges of red. Big foamy head (might be due to the frosted glass it was served in).

Aroma is mostly malts with hints of caramel and nuts.

Pretty tame flavour. Chewy malts with hints of nuts and some caramel.

A little watery for a brown ale, but not bad (again, could be due to the frosted glass it was served in).

Pretty decent beer. Nothing special, but worth a try.

Pours a brilliant amber with a foamy khaki head that quickly dissipates to nothing.

A sharp, fruity/sour/metallic character dominates initially, giving way to toasted nuts and a hint of chocolate. Floral hops are subtle.

Flavor reveals more nutty dominance throughout. Underpinnings of floral hops and yeast esters add intrigue. There's a sharp bite that is somewhat offputting, but fades in the dry finish.

Never had a beer with a mouthfeel like this. It's fairly full, but it is creamy and rich, leaving an interesting and hard to describe sensation in the palate. The dry finish combines to be reminiscent of the experience after eating pecans.

The sharp/acidic bite is offputting, but great depth of nutty flavor. Truly a unique beer. A hint of diacetyl in the aftertaste drives the nutty presence home.
