Notes/Commercial Description:
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: A rusted cherry copper colored body holds a cream colored head. Little or no lacing, but it always depends on the glass.

Aroma: Roasted nuts, clean wood, malts, faint caramel sweetness.

Taste: Very malty sweet and nutty -- lots of caramel as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: Very drinkable, very nutty, sweet, but not too sweet. Really like this.

This is a beer great for people who love beer and even those who don't. Sweet but not syrupy and it's a surprisingly easy to drink beer. Perfect to have when firing up the grill in the summer.

A nice pecan nutty flavor in a milder brown ale. Well balanced and just a nice little beer.

Pours a soapy, tan head. Soft, nutty aroma with sweet, toasted malt notes. Translucent burnt sienna/copper color. Starts with a slight sweetness, floral hops, and lightly toasted malt. Malt wells up with a biscuit flavor with more lightly toasted malt, then a robust flavor of pecans. Finish is toasted malt and pecans.

Oh, this is excellent. The lightly toasted malt pairs perfectly against the pecans, and they meld into one another very gracefully. A nice complexity of flavors, and nothing is overbearing or overshadowed; excellent craftsmanship. Color me impressed (and I'm not a big fan of Brown Ales).

Though, as I keep drinking this, the sweetness becomes a bit over-pronounced. It's like a cumulative sweetness; it lingers in my mouth and every sip becomes a touch sweeter. That's disappointing. In a smaller quantity, this was excellent. My guess is the low hopping means there's nothing to counteract the sweetness of the malt.
