Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Black. Pours about a 1 finger, foamy, brown-white head. Settles quickly leaving a shadow of a foam blanket. Light ring of foam remains around the rim. No real lacing to speak of.

S: Light charred coffee, salt water, oaky wood, and a slight bit of cocoa.

T: Roasted coffee. Woody but more earthy.

M: Hearty and full body, but comes across as a little diluted. Lightly bittersweet finish.

D: Sip and enjoy or go hard and fast.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Dark due, nice head, but little to no lacing. Nose is characteristic of the style roasted coffee malt, with some earthy and light chocolate tones. Flavor is of charred coffee with some distinct earthy characteristics. Rustic and musty. Overall, this is a good quaff.

Growler purchased from Gus's in Auburn, AL.

Pours a dark brown color with a thin off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of sweet toasted malt with good amounts of dark chocolate and toffee aromas. Also present are mild amounts of roasted malts.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Toasted malt flavors up front with hints of toffee kick things off. Midway through the sip mild amounts of dark chocolate enter into things and carry through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall this was a smooth-drinking beer however the flavors didn't seem to play off of each other as well as I'd hoped judging by the nose. Still, worth a shot.

Big thanks goes out to Mississipping for sharing this one at a tasting while he was in town! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a deep red-brown with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, bread, and sweet alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, nutty, milk chocolate, and bread. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty average brew. While there was a good bit going on in this one none of it seemed to mix very well together. The nutty aspect on the flavor was what killed it for me. One the aroma there really wasn’t anything that stood out to me as to why this was any better than a slightly above average brew for the style. Glad I got to try it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to do so again in the future.

Growler purchased @ McDoogal's in Nashville, Tn.

Poured into a "Wal Mart special" water Goblet ( ya'll gotta go country with this one....). Pours a nice, dark brown color with amber edges.
Big tan head (2.5-3") that faded into some very clingy lacing.
Smells of chocolate toffee, some coffee, and a subtle presence of smokeiness. Very nice!!
Taste mimics the smell closely! I find no difference in the taste and smell! Superb!

feels silky smooth going down, no difficulty drinking 2 (two) growlers in one night! VERY sessionable beer, desirable for an all night session on a "pet project"!

1/2 gallon Growler, sampled in a tuplip.

Pours a dark amber color, settling to a very lighter mahogony color. Golden head, nice amounts of lacing. This is the lightest, thinest looking porter ive ever seen.

The smell is different and familiar at the same time. There is a bit of smokiness to the nose, but at the same time rather nutty. Actually, its rather bready as a whole, with some underlying caramel notes adding a slight sweetness. A bit of malts, and a slight hop taste on the finish.

Medium to light body and a bit thin. Nothing steller truthfully.

The drink is average. I don't know the ABV, but seems as though you could probably put the intire growler away and be alright.

Notes: This ressembled a porter in only a minimal amount of ways. Im not exactly how id catorgarize it. I don't think id get it again. For a brew part of a "brewers choice series", this is not a strong opening act...

**UPDATE**

Decided to finish off the growler the following day, and it was so much better for some reason. There was so much added smokiness and burnt malts, which are some of my favorite porter/stout charactoristics. Maybe it was just the first couple of glasses, or maybe the fact that I had a Black Albert and Peche Mortel prior, but it was rather enjoyable the second time around.

Lazy Magnolia Gulf Porter

Appearance: dark brown, medium head, and some lacing.

Smell: hops and cocoa.

Taste: rich cocoa malts, plentiful hops, and a subtle toffee.

Mouthfeel: liquidy but also slightly chewy.

Overall:
This is a nice brew. It is more complex than it initially appears. The bottle names a few other ingredients that I am not able to detect.

Pours black with light tan head that dissipates quickly. Watery appearance.

Smokey toasted malt, banana, plum, chocolate presence in the smell.

Taste is smokey oak, toasted malts, and a mild bit of dark chocolate in the front with pretty heavy bitterness that lingers in the finish. Bitterness and ash-like flavor in aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is a little watery with medium carbonation.

Overall this was good. Not my favorite of the style.

this beer pours a dark dark brown, not quite black. minimal head that dissipates pretty quickly. not a bad looking beer.

the smell is very nice. chocolate, toffee, lots of smokiness.

the taste is chocolate, toffee and the smokiness continues through here, probably moreso than even the smell.

this is where this beer lets me down. it's very thin, bordering on watery. this beer is "mouthfeel" away from being an "A" beer to me.

drinkability is as good as any porter i've had. as an earlier review stated, you could probably go through a growler of this pretty easily and still remain upright.

this is a nice offering from my only home state brewery. a very drinkable porter for the fair weather we have down here.

Nice, deep chestnut color with a very nice tannish white head on top. Slight caramel and toasted malt aroma. Good malty flavor with only a slight hop bitterness to it. Somewhat spicy-label says their house yeast is to blame. Somewhat smokey and treacle like. Nice soft mouthfeel. Boy this goes down way to easy. Very enjoyable. It is going to be a good night with a growler of this in front of me. Heck of a way to dive into my Secret Santa 09 box! Thanks to PerzentRizen for this one.

Poured from 12oz bottle into pint glass

A - Extremely dark brown or black with a light brown head of 2 inches. Thick lacing down the sides

S - chocolate, roasted malts,

T - bold chocolate up front finished with caramel malt. a little kick of hops and booze towards the end

M - does not feel like a porter at all. a little more carbed than it should be I think. also it is very light bodied.
