Jefferson Stout, Lazy Magnolia's original Sweet Potato Cream Stout, is Lazy Magnolia's version of the ideal Southern-Style Stout. Bottled on 2/15/15 Pours nearly jet black except for some brown highlights when held to the light,a creamy tan colored head atop.Iron and sweet milk lactose aromas, not overly sweet. Some residual sweetness on the palate with that tinge of iron,a warm toasty spiced finish.

Poured into a pint glass at Avenue pub, New Orleans

Appearance: 1/2 inch head, black in color, opaque

Smell: roasted malt and cream

Taste: big coffee start, cream, caramel, and a touch of coconut follow.

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, medium-heavy body, semi-bitter start followed by a very super sweet middle and a less sweet ending.

Overall: This is right up there with the best of LM beers. It is perfect on a hot southern afternoon. This has a nice combo of the biting coffee and super sweet sugar. I could have several of these. A unique beer that may be my new favorite in the style.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Thank you to shan8454 for this beer in trade.

Appearance: Black, no light will shine through this one. No head or lacong on this one.

Smell: Faint malts and coffee.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth full bodied. Taste of faint alcohol, coffee, malts, and some starches.

Overall: This was an OK brew, not my favorite.

Black in color and impenetrable to light. A fingernail of khaki head covers the rim of the glass and about 1/3 of the top. Aroma is faint but I get starchy sweet potato and lactose. The flavor is lactose and the sweet potato almost gives it a smoky note. The mouth is crisp and silky.

Cool jet black pour, looked silky and smooth, tan head on the top of it, a little bit smaller than average, but far from lacking in any way. Nose displayed faint roasted malt qualities, nothing in terms of potatoes (do those even smell?). Minimal chocolate.

Taste holds up. More chocolate, good quaffable malt consistency. Really enjoy the sweetness, its like you get a double dose seemingly from lactose and sweet potatoes, and they really work! It isn't overly sweet by any means, but it has a real enjoyable drinkability to it. The carbonation seems just right to allow different waves of flavor in the mouthfeel to coat the tongue. Its not just unique, but it also actually tastes good.

A little more complex than city slickers would ever want to admit comes out of the South. A little chocolate, coffee, lactose, sweet potato. . . even the potato I suspect has an oatmeal like lending of smoothness to the beer. Gotta like the low abv that makes this an even moreso effortless beer to drink.

Growler fill from the first pour out of a new keg at Moondog Growlers. Poured about 1 hour later into a Porter Bar goblet.

Pours a dark reddish-brown, and sits almost black in the glass. A modest but creamy tan head fades fast and leaves little lacing.

Aroma: dark roasted chocolate malt, sweet with perhaps some sweet potato; faint earthy hop notes.

T: A sweet and creamy flavor, with hints of milf chocolate and coffee. Blemished by a faint sour note that, to be fair, is characteristic of milk stouts. The taste actually deteriorates a little with warming, becoming more sour and less malty, unusual for a stout.

M: Creamy smooth; full bodied; acceptable low carbonation.

O: Another (with pecan beer) mildly disappointing offering from this brewer, but better than the pecan ale and certainly a decent brew.
