Notes/Commercial Description:
Jefferson Stout, Lazy Magnolia's original Sweet Potato Cream Stout, is Lazy Magnolia's version of the ideal Southern-Style Stout. Jefferson Stout is brewed with sweet potatoes and lactose (milk sugar). The sweet potatoes provide the background to an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors.

Draft at Grapevine. Your basic black pour. Nice frothy light tan head, finger or so at first, receded pretty quickly to a thin layer.

Aroma, a lot of lactose sugar, almost musty smelling. Must be the potatoes. Faint roast and cocoa.

Taste, no such mustiness. Roast malt, milk chocolate. Finishes fairly dry, just a hint of coffee and cocoa.

Maybe mid bodied, just a tad thin. The flavors just don't linger too long. I could see myself drinking a whole bunch of this easily. The quintessential session sweet stout. Would have it probably only for this purpose however.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Black. Pours about a 1 finger, brown, foamy head. Settles quickly leaving no remains. No real lacing.

S: Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and light sweetness from the sweet potato noted in its name, also present.

T: Characteristic of the style...roasted coffee with hints of dark, unsweetened chocolate. Slightly pungent, sweet flavor from the sweet potatoes adds an unique character.

M: Thick, hearty, robust. Syrupy body, with a lightly pungent finish.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Good atmosphere. Dark hue, nice (albeit fleeting) head, but no lacing. Nose and flavor are characteristic of the style....roasted coffee bean, and dark unsweetened chocolate. Sweet pungent tone from the sweet potatoes and a thick syrupy character. Overall, this is a good quaff.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass

A - Black in color with a very dark brown head. Head is bout an inch and dissipates rather quickly. almost no lacing

S - Huge chocolate notes here and something that almost smells creamy - hard to describe. Coffee notes and some roasted malts as well.

T - Heavy on chocolate, some coffee, even a slight hint of bitterness towards the end

M - appropriately carbed, medum bodied. A strange creamy texture to it, unlike most stouts

Overall - not a bad beer, worth a shot for sure

Pours very dark brown to black in Raise Your Pints MS tulip. Light tan head with decent lacing.

Smell is sweet and charred malts. Chocolate and a hint of plum.

Taste is sweet malt with lots of charred oakiness later on the palate. Mild bitterness. I'm not picking up much sweet potato.

Mouthfeel is lighter than expected. Pretty heavy carbonation.

Overall this is good, but not my favorite from LM.
