Timber Beast is a spicy, full-bodied, imperial India pale ale balanced with a generous dose of Galaxy, Simcoe, Centennial, and Ahtanum. It’s a recipe inspired by the complex and beautiful flavors of Mississippi and a reflection of the strength and spirit of our very own Timber Beast. Rye is a natural fit for the Imperial style. The nutty sweetness of this hearty grain perfectly balances the generous hop bite and brings you back for another sip.

On tap at Weidmanns in Meridian MS
Comes in a shaker glass a mostly clear golden orange with a decent sized frothy white head that quickly recedes. Big bready caramel maltiness and hints of spice with citrus and tropical to counter.

Re-review :

Parish Teku, bottle notched in December of 2019.

Pours an orange-ish hue, pretty dark for an IPA, but probably due to some of the rye. Head is large and in charge, leaves nice lacing as it recedes.

Aroma is spent grain, potato flakes, cold tomato soup, and grapefruit rind.

Flavor brings heavy malt presence, I suppose it's rye, it's just dusty and grainy really, with a tinge of ethanol, then grapefruit rind, martini onion, slight orange rind, and a finish of caramel malt. It is more of a chore and not delicious.

Feel is thick and sticky but then the alcohol thins it out. Pretty big presence of heat, and has a sticky resiny finish that dries on the palate.

Overall, still not impressed, this is a poor double IPA, and as noted here, very fresh, still has flavor issues. While on paper it does hit the right markers, I won't go back for more, ever.

12 oz bottle dated May 2018 (I don't have an exact date)

Appearance is 100% opaque with an almost tomato-soup-like consistency and color. Lots and lots of flaky sediment floating around the mid-to-bottom portions of the glass. Head is off-white and 1 finger tall, stays pretty firm and leaves nice creamy lace up the sides.

Huge aromas of tomato and grain alcohol; rye and ethanol with slight asparagus and onion. Zero fruitiness, more vegetal-herbal. It's strong though, very assertive presence.

Caramel malt comes whopping straight out of the gate, just one wave after another. Violent. What follows next is rye starches and ethanol with flavors of tomato paste/squished tomato. Slight onion/herb also compliment the profile. Slight hop fading.

Feel is boozy and burning, with a resiny, hot presence. Faint clinging resins.

Overall, if it weren't for the overwhelming steam roller of alcohol presence and assertiveness, this beer could be completely nasty. It's like very herbal tomato sauce but the ethanol brings this sort of poppy vodka reduction to the mix and gives it an artisan boost. It's definitely unique, not a favorite of mine, but if you're curious try ONE, to see if you like it enough to buy more. I personally like the DDH version better.

Just a solid craft Imperial IPA available in my area. It is a regular go to when I want a higher ABV IPA.

From the bottle, it pours a hazy amber with a modest head that slowly dissipates and leaves lacing. Citrus in the nose. The mouth gets a different flavored IPA - most likely the Rye that is outstanding!

Gold with medium head. Orangey citrus aroma with a hint of pine. The flavor, too, is almost all citrus, with a very sweet maltiness. There's just a trace of rye spiciness. Moderately bitter for the style. Hardly a hint of alcohol. Lighter carbonation.

From notes 4/3/13: Pours an opaque deep gold with 2 fingers of beige, moderately lasting, foamy head that leaves a nice coating of sticky lace. Aroma is heavy grapefruit and to a lesser degree other citrus with a hint of pine, caramel and rye spice. Taste is a nice blend of citrusy hops, hefty rye spice bite and strong earthy hop bitterness. It finishes lightly sweet with caramel malts which ride into but rapidly fade in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, lively with spice, dry, drawing and crisp. The best Lazy Magnolia offering I've experienced to date.
