A: Dark chestnut to black. Medium tan head. Short lasting, no lacing.

S: A subtle sweet potato is hard to get at. Covered up by stronger and not as subtle scents of cocoa powder, cinnamon, marshmallow, brown sugar.

M: Medium bodied, but not too sweet. Low-mod carbonation. Has a residing astringency like bitter coffee grounds. Creaminess is not noteworthy, on par to slightly below for style.

T: This beer ends up tasting like the burnt skin of a sweet potato. I can get where they were going, wanting to use the starch of a sweet potato and the flavors that dress said sweet potato (marshmallow and whipped cream sweetness, brown sugar molasses, earthy sweetness, cinnamon) to compliment the naturally acrid espresso flavors in a stout. Ends up tasting like burnt coffee with a touch of cinnamon on top. Smoky, roasted nut flavor. It gets better as it warms, and I definitely get some marshmallow sweetness, which is very nice on the palate; however, overall it's more bitter than sweet, and misses it's niche. Nice, but no need to revisit.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip.
I am not a fan of sweet potatoes, but I gave this one a shot.

Appearance - opaque, head is tan/ light brown with good retention and some lacing

Smell - cocoa, caramel

Taste - roasted malts, baker's chocolate

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, silky

Overall - all though a very good looking beer, not one of my favorites, average stout. Did not really get any sweet potato on the pallet. Very smooth and light. Would be good to have if you are having a few due to the abv.
