Pours mahogany with 2 fingers of caramel colored head. Traces of lacing & even less head retention

S: Carob & cocoa, some dark chocolate as this warms

T: Follows the nose, iron & Baker's Chocolate & dryness up front. Carob, a bit of raisin, iron & molasses as this warms, faint lactose flavor as well & a little bit of dark chocolate. Finishes dry with lactose & iron & a touch of cocoa sweetnesss

MF: Medium bodied with modest carbonation, thins out a bit once warm, dry-ish

Didn't really taste any sweet potato, but a decent milk stout none the less. Easy to drink

I got this in a trade with my local buddy, Sam Knocken, so I am delving into something other than CANs or IPAs as is usually my wont.

From the bottle: "Jefferson Stout, Lazy Magnolia's original Sweet Potato Cream Stout and our version of the ideal Sweet Southern Stout, is brewed with roasted Southern-grown sweet potatoes and lactose (milk sugar). The sweet potatoes provide the background to an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors."; "If you're pondering something tasty to pair with Jefferson Stout we suggest raw oysters, ice cream or chocolate cake."; "Malt beverage brewed with sweet potatoes and lactose."; "The ideal sweet southern stout".

Man, but the pour seemed to create a faux cascade, no matter how gently I poured, especially since it threatened to overflow the glass. I got two fingers of dense, foamy, deep-tan head with good retention as a result. Color was an inky deep brown, allowing no light penetration (SRM = 44). Mouthfeel was full, creamy, rich with dark chocolate, smoke, charcoal and a general roastiness. Finish lingered with a smoky chocolatiness. It was not totally sweet, per se, but it was definitely a stout. It was an interesting diversion on a Sunday afternoon.

12 oz bottle poured into my lost abbey stemware glass

Pours clear black with an average, creamy tan head, medium retention with good lacing.
Aroma is malty ( toffee, chocolate ) , light hops, and light esters (fruity) with notes of sour milk
Flavor is heavy malt , light chocolate, lactose , light watery coffee , little roasted light hops ,
Not a big succes in my eyes
Medium body, carbonation, and creaminess, medium dry finish.
This isn't a really great beer , to light / soft / watery ,
