I drove to Buster's to get my hands on the Ruination 10th Anniversary, and I had planned to get a few other things. The selection is okay, but they lacked any real variety. They had tons of Belgians and tons of IPAs, but outside of that there was almost no variety. I got all the Stone I could want and some Yazoo Sue, which is fine; I love Stone. But, another customer asked me what a good wheat beer was, and in the process, we found they had no wheats anywhere that we could find. It's summer; you'd think at least a SN Kellerweis would be there (they only had hoptimum, torpedo, and SNPA). My local bottle shop in Little Rock, which I complain about regularly, has a much more impressive stock. Anyway, I will probably stop here whenever I drive through (I'm in Little Rock, family is in Birmingham), but rather disappointing. Nevertheless, good customer service. One of the guys had good knowledge about beer. We mainly lamented about DFH pulling out of TN.

I visited Feb. 3, 2015

I'm just going to do a side by side on Buster's and Joe's.

V - Buster's wins hands down. The area it's in seems hopping and more vibrant. From an outsider, Joe's seemed in more of seedier or rougher part of town.

Q - I'd give the nod to Buster's again. The beer was stacked up on the floor or deep on the shelf. The beer at Joe's had empty pockets where it looks like someone just didn't do inventory. Also, at Joe's I saw more than a few beat up or dented in craft cans that should have been pulled and not left in the fridge.

S - Both were pretty much equal here. But, I'd give the nod again to Buster's as they helped me bring the beer to my car. I bought more than a case at both stores.

S - TN has weird beer laws that splits the abv between liquor stores and grocery stores. Selection is what it is in both stores as it West TN seems to be forgotten when compared to East TN. I went to both stores on the same day and Buster's was definitely cheaper by a dollar when comparing the same beers of the same format.

Notable finds on the shelf at Buster's was Brooklyn Blacks Ops and Rodenbach Caractère Rouge.

Mind you this review is coming from the perspective of a Nebraska where our liquor laws are like the wild, wild west…

So… only having beers above 6.whatever% OBVIOUSLY hurts the selection. I stopped at Busters twice during my stay and nothing jumped out at me as “must buys” but I was looking for more sessionable beers (off to the grocery store for that!) but if you are in the mood for a nice high proof bomber/750ml you are covered. While the space dedicated to beer is small they did have plenty of variety to satisfy: Belgians to DIPAS to Imperial Stouts.

Prices on everything (beer, wine, liquor) is higher than I am use too… but par for the area (retail)???

Friendly people, ample help.

On-site parking.

I will let the locals tell you if this is the best in Memphis but I’d say it’s worth a stop for a local and out-of-towner alike.

Good selection for Memphis but the staff (except for one person, Kurt) don't know a damn about beer. I'm tired of coming in here and getting blank stares when I try to talk to the kids standing around in the beer area, they're basically just shelf stockers. Busters, educate or hire better beer staff! A few bottles I've found here are higher in prices compared to other stores.

Have stopped here a few times while in Southwest Memphis to check out the selection and pick up a few beers.

Nice store atmosphere - strong selection of spirits and wine. The craft beer selection is decent for a Tennessee store. The crazy TN laws dictate this store will only have high abv brews.

Good service from the staff and fresh releases of available beers when I've visited the store. Decent selection of imports to go with American crafts. Solid offering for those shops I've visited in the area.

This place should be linked together with Raffe's somehow for tourists since they are only like two blocks apart and compliment each other quite well due to state restrictions on ABV. I found a good selection of stronger stuff here like Yazoo Sue, some Red Brick Bourbon Barrel beers, and a good selection of out of state stuff. Cashier seemed rather surly, although stock clerk helped me find the Yazoo Sue (originally had a single, but wanted a four pack). The store had a nice appearance... it is a place worth checking out for traveling beer geeks, and probably most of all available could be picked up here and at Raffe's

A- It's just a standard wine/liquor store that has a couple rows/coolers dedicated to beer. Nothing is offensive or inviting about the place.
Quality and Selection- These kind of have to be reviewed together due to Tennessee's crazy laws. Buster's is only able to sell high-gravity beer so their selection is relatively limited by law. With this in mind, the quality of beers available is pretty good, with DFH, Stone, some SN, Unibroue, Victory, and a large variety of Belgians being the most notable products.
S- The staff is friendly enough (usually), but in the several times I've been, I've never been offered assistance or advice.
Price is maybe a bit high due to taxes and such, but for the area it's reasonable.

Nice selection at Busters. This is a nice store in a nice area, and the prices were better than those at Joe's. This along with Joe's are the two places in Memphis to find high Gravity brews. Each had some beers that the other didn't have so it's worth stopping by both. Can't remember what all they had but there was Victory, Ommegang, Rogue, RJ Rocker, Dogfish Head, Yazoo,Innis & Gunn, Maybe a dozen Belgian beers Including Deirium, Hopus, Westmalle, Kasteeel, Meredsous and St. Augustijn. Will shop there again next time I'm in Memphis.

if you live in memphis and you enjoy beer then you know that buster's is one of very few places to buy high abv brews. store is extremely large and conveniently located at the corner of poplar/highland in the shopping center there. as you walk in, the beer section is straight ahead with 5 fridges full and a large room temp selection on the right. the 2 big negatives about their beer is that date/freshness is usually an issue, and the prices are usually the highest in the area. selection includes, to name a few: stone, dfh, north coast, victory, and a large variety of belgians. staff is usually very friendly but i've yet to get any help in beer section so i'm not sure if they have anyone that specializes in beer. another reviewer commented that this store is more for the liquor/wine buyer and i'd have to agree. i would always recommend either natalie's in cordova or joe's in midtown over buster's but if you're in the area and need something convenient then buster's will probably hit the spot

If you are looking specifically for liquor, Buster's is perhaps the most well known place in Memphis. It overshadows its decent beers though as well. Buster's beer selection is mostly high end beers and others you won't find in your average store. On the other hand, there is not a huge variety nor many "standard" beers you'd find in other stores.

For high end beers the prices are very nice though and you can find several beers that you won't find in most other places. The staff is very friendly and helpful but their primary sale is liquor and wine.

Buster's is a great place to go occasionally to see what rarer beers are available; however, I wouldn't go unless you were primarily looking for wine or liquor.

Just moved to Memphis from the Northeast a month ago and have to say that Buster's has the best big beer (and wine for that matter) selection in the city. Three rows of full coolers and the same stock at room temp behind it. Micros, belgians and other european big beer stock were plentiful when considering the selection at other locations in the city (see post below, this relates to 6% abv beers and above only per TN law). Friendly staff and prices comparable to the Northeast, which I fully understand might make it expensive for this part of the country, but still a good deal to me. This will be my place to get big beers.
