Notes/Commercial Description:
Nickel Brook Headstock Light is definitely not your typical ‘light’ beer. We have created this beer using a blend of 3 premium malts which gives rise to a brew of full body and flavour rarely seen in a light beer.

473 mL can from the LCBO; packaged June 28 2013 if I'm deciphering the code properly. Never seen this stuff on the shelves before, although it seems to predate the more well-known (and quite excellent) Headstock IPA. Served well-chilled.

Pours a pale golden colour, topped with nearly a full inch of puffy, smooth, white-coloured head. Highly effervescent, with streams of bubbles constantly rushing toward the surface to reinforce what I must admit is the best-looking, longest-lasting head I've ever seen on a light lager. Gobs of lacing stick to the side of the glass with each sip. The aroma is clean and pleasant, with notes of grainy pale malts, biscuits, honey and noble, grassy hops. Very impressed so far.

Tasty and full-flavoured for a 4.4% lager, with lots of bready, biscuity malt flavour. Slightly grainy, with some honey sweetness that is quickly countered by the modest, grassy hop bill. Slight metallic twang in the aftertaste, which leans on the dry side. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel - particularly so before the head dies down. One of the tastiest light lagers I've had in 8 years of drinking, and just as quaffable as you'd expect from the style.

Final Grade: 3.76, an impressive B+ grade. Nickel Brook Headstock Lager isn't an interesting beer, but it is most certainly a well-made one. In a traditionally boring style such as this, it's very refreshing to try an offering with such a comparatively rich base of biscuity malts and noble hops, rather than the usual watered-down adjunct flavour. Better Bitters has been putting out some fantastic brews lately, and while this light lager is unlikely to blow any BAs away (as some of those other offerings are apt to), I must still give this one props for being a solid example of its style. Worth trying if you're a pale lager drinker looking for something local to slog back in hot weather, and something I'd definitely recommend to any light lager fan.

Surprisingly decent light beer, with significant bitterness. I have had a few lighter but still bitter beers. Weighs in at 4.4% abv and listed as a pilsner. Very light yellow yet delivers some flavour. Fresh bottle at the brewery.Above average pale lager.

Picked up a six of this at the brewery the other day, needed a light beer replacement for the "big three" so I picked this one up.

This poured a bit darker than your standard light lager however it still retains the boring head that most light lagers tend to portray. Smell is grainy, reminiscent of a German Pilsener. This has a bold hop character and the flavor of this brew is very much like an authentic German Pilsener, with some malt flavor in the finish.

Decent beer, Great light beer. Definitely worth a try..

This is the only light beer I have ever tasted that delivers malty lager taste.

This one is a pale straw color like other light beers but that’s where the similarity ends. Has a lasting frothy cap that leaves adequate lace on the glass.

Mild malty-citrus aromas with no off tones or adjuncts...

.... light body, crisp but mild mouth feel but you can taste a good dose of biscuit malt over some decent lemon grass hops. Finish is clean with some cidery fruit dryness with a light biscuity after taste.

Malty, citrusy, light, crisp (without being sharp or too dry) refreshing and very drinkable...very much like a pale, light version of an Edelhell. The best light beer I have tasted....this would sub for a session lager or a patio drink with mixed company in a pinch.
