Presentation: Short, Fat, Stubby 12 fluid ounce bottle with what appears to be a screw-off crown cap, but I had no joy getting the bugger off manually. Single main obverse label looks like the one pictured on BA and has a monkey headed Christ-like figure lifting a Pint inset amongst other biblical looking figures. The crown cap has an interesting purple colored logo set onto the brass colored background, a picture of a monkeys head is surrounded by the words ‘Nimbus Brewing Company – Arizona’. Listed at 5.50% ABV.

Appearance: Gentle looks, soft urine-yellow body with an unblemished beige colored head which forms a rocky covering and laces nicely throughout the drink. Off white speckled crusts litter the walls of my Mug. Above average carbonation produces a virulent looking golden colored session ale.

Nose: A dryness heavy with Cereals and oatmeal mixes in with toasted malts and a sweet finish. Tartness with some lemon in the back end. A bit messy though and the cereal odors are a little too much. It is not often I use the “S” word, but this does develop a skunked aroma after a short time in the glass.

Taste: Harsh grains with a powdered texture, more clogged up cereal flavors are here to match the skunk odors I picked up earlier. Bitterness has lemon elements, the malts are sweet. Finish is not very nice at all, the bitterness is astringent; this tastes like old faded hops with some orange juice and a boiled cabbage stew to provide the ending. The hopping is just plain screwy here.

Mouthfeel: Powdery dry texture with rotten vegetables thrown in for good measure. Parching feel dries the mouth, the carbonation then pushes firm and this is punished by the astringent bitterness which rapes the tongue. Unbalanced with a terrible feel.

Drinkability: Difficult to handle this one, the skunk aroma, off kilter bitterness, dry clumpy cereal and Mouthfeel all contrive to make this one extremely difficult to handle. I finished it, but only just.

Overall: Look great, but pretty much goes down hill from there. Not impressed at all by this one. Pale Ale is described by Nimbus as a beer that is not for Newbies to the craft beer scene. Well I'm an Oldie, and I still don't like it. Terribly unbalanced.

Pours a hazy, amber color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of alcohol, sweet malt, citrus hops, floral notes, hint of grass, and strong yeast. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong yeast, alcohol, sweet malt, citrus hops, floral notes, and hint of pine. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend.

Review based on two 12 oz bottles which had come from the distriibutor (GA) in April 2014. Sampled about 1 week apart starting just a few days later that same month (April). Bottle shows date of Feb. 2014.

Durable bone-colored head over an amber body.

Fruity aroma with an off-note. Likewise, the flavor, though partly pleasing, is rather odd with a mildly tart note of lemons and unripe apricots. Second bottle may have been a bit better but stil wierd, with a surprising and unmistakable tartness. Ratings remained nearly unchanged.

O: infected bottle? Doesn't bear the common characterisitcs. Suspicious looking spotty sediment on the bottom of the bottle.

12oz Stubby

A big thanks goes out to my pops for thinking of me while out in Arizona and grabbing me a few beers. A handsome beer in the pint glass. Brilliantly clear, highly polished copper glows with the surrounding light. A few points of carbonation burst in packs and slowly run to the surface. An eggshell white head, a little dirty, forms with no problems and shows impressive staying power. Lacing covers every surface as I drink. Looks delicious.

The nose is citrus driven, soft and candy like. White sugar muddled orange and grapefruit along with a healthy dose of orange peel is the centerpiece. A little buttery biscuit pale malts lay down the base. This is an appetizing smelling pale ale in the vein of the balanced variety, which for some reason I don't drink that often anymore.

This IPA is all about balance and drinkability. Buttery biscuit maltiness and white bread make for the malt base. The hop profile is classic Pacific Northwest. Sweetened orange and grapefruit, same as in the nose, are in the forefront but there's also a touch of pithiness. As this one warms there's a very mild buttery character I could do without but it's minor.

Nimbus nailed the mouthfeel. The body has medium weight and a nice velvety feel. Carbonation is soft and complimentary while the bitterness grows as I drink. It's no palate crusher but it runs just shy of moderate with a drying finish. The drinkability is up there.

This is an all around enjoyable, easy going IPA. Simple and straightforward. Something to be drank while grilling, hiking, or golfing. I wouldn't seek this out but I certainly wouldn't turn it down. Highly quaffable.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was a strawberry (sorta) blond looking more blond I guess hard to describe. Head on this one did not last as long as it looked like it was when I first poured it. Beer smelled kinda neutral far as beer goes, I guess had sorta a fresh smell. The beer was slightly hoppy just about right for me that does not like a hop bomb. Good beer, I will drink this again.
