The highlight of the 2013 Borefts festival. Thanks for bringing me the pour gents.
Into a mini-snifter
Compared to the regular H&V Wild Turkey
APPEARANCE: Pours the same syrupy dark brown and yields a medium tan head with decent retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. A ring remains but leaves no lacing down the glass. Looks basically the same, though it might be a touch more syrupy.
SMELL: Definitely a bigger nose that the normal version. All the elements are there, with lots of barrel, oak, vanilla and sweet cream, toffee and dark baker's chocolate. Molasses and light coffee notes as well. Very big and more alcohol.
TASTE: All the same stuff as the regular Wild Turkey but with a more boozy and barrel heavy finish. Lots of bourbon, oak, toffee and butterscotch sweetness, molasses, with plenty of sweet vanilla cream and dark chocolate after the swallow. Concentrate H&V Wild Turkey of course, so lots of booze lingers alongside the bourbon barrels, sweet cream, molasses and chocolate flavors. Big and delicious. An awesome after dinner sipper.
PALATE: Fuller body, silky smooth with lower levels of carbonation. Creamy, slick, goes down surprisingly smooth with a bit of a burn after the swallow and finishes sticky on the palate. A good dose of heat lingers, but certainly not much more than the regular version, surprisingly enough.
OVERALL: A real treat, and I'm exponentially glad I didn't miss it. It's big and boozy, but definitely not insane. This is basically a H&V Wild Turkey concentrate with a heavier alcohol presence. It's hard to say that this is an improvement on the base version, but it is certainly a well executed, well balanced, decadent treat that is well worth re-making at least every now and then. Cheers again boys. Highly recommended.

Had about 5 glasses of this @ Borefts 2013. Beer of the festival for me. Black, huge, incredibly creamy mocha head. Nose is huge sticky, very creamy coffee with milk, molasses, brown sugar, faint roast, very thick creamy malt, big sugar, thick vanilla, borderline milkshake, sticky bourbon, wood,… Taste is even better a milkshake of bourbon, vanilla, huge, thick, milky, malty, oak, incredibly creamy, sweet, hint brown honey, coffee, light roast, caramel, light molasses, very thick,…very creamy. Ridiculous, very slightly warming but the booze is completely masked. This does not feel 18 %. Easily the best Hel & Verdoemenis, way, way better than Double Black & better than Special Kay. Easily the best beer I have had from De Molen. Incredible, couldn’t stop tasting other people’s glass & drinking it. Took 2 tasting glasses of this stuff for the road b ack & finished them all in 5 min. I wanted a jug of this stuff.
