330ml bottle. This should be interesting, as I avoid bergamot-flavoured things such as Earl Grey tea like the plague.

This beer pours a hazy, dark copper amber hue, with one finger of weakly foamy, and generally just bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a bit of random moon rock lace around the glass as it quickly dissipates.

It smells of bitter orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus rind, semi-sweet crackery pale malt, a soft caramel/toffee sweetness, yeasty and floral berry fruit, and further herbal, earthy hops. The taste is more fairly sweet pale and caramel malt, mixed orchard fruit - more fleshy than bitter - abetted by the same weirdly floral fruit acridity that I have come to know and loathe, with some zippy piney, estery herbal hops.

The carbonation is fairly understated, just a timid burbling here and there, the body medium-light in weight, and not so smooth, the yeast, acrid fruit, and offensive floral notes none too kind here. It finishes off-dry, the pleasantly mutt-ish malt doing well to linger, at about the same pace as the bitter IPA hops and bergamot essence.

Meh - I sense a decent enough IPA under it all, but, hey, I knew what I was getting into here, but hoped for some sort of epiphany - I didn't get it. The guest bergamot fruit is certainly evident, and that's usually a plus with these sorts of things, so if that scratches any of your itches, give it a go. If you're like me, however, off to the sink she goes. (1,464 characters)
