Bottle from Jeffo. Served in a Zwanze 2015 West Lakeview tulip.
A - Big mocha foam settles to a solid cap, thick collar, and loads of splotchy lacing. Body is an opaque black, with not obvious highlights.
S - Bourbon and oak leap out, along with some green apple-ish alcohol flavor. Roasted grains, milk chocolate, and perhaps a touch of shaved coconut. A touch of smoke and umami comes out as it warms.
T - Flavor is slightly tart and acidic; think there is an early-stage infection present. Oak, baker's chocolate, bread, stale coffee, and some dark fruit vinousness. Tangy whiskey in the finish. Not terrible, but clearly 'off'.
M - Carbonation has a a bit of prickle to it, but otherwise it's a creamy medium body. Perhaps a tad thin for 9.7%. Some warming after a few ounces, but nothing excessive. Dry finish, with only light lingering stickiness.
D - Sounded promising, but the infection results in tart and sour flavors that are not complimentary. Skip this unless it's a new batch. I could finish the 33cl if I needed the alcohol and/or calories, but I've got plenty of better stuff to drink.

Got this one at the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven.
From a bottle into a snifter
Barrel aged oatmeal stout
EBC: 335
EBU: 59
23.9* Plato
Bottled on 21 November 2014
Best Before 21 November 2039
APPEARANCE: Mostly opaque black pour yields a 1+ finger, medium and creamy looking, tan head with very good retention. Black body with mostly no carbonation evident. Slowly fades to a full wisp and clings to the sides of the glass. Splotchy wisp remains leaving some nice lacing down the glass. Good looking stout brew.
SMELL: Oak, bourbon, sweet vanilla cream and light coconut aromas on the nose. Milk chocolate, toffee and butterscotch notes as well. Well integrated and plenty forthcoming. Nice stuff.
TASTE: A little acidic up front with notes of oak, milk chocolate and toffee as well. That acidity comes back at the swallow with a some burnt malts, oak, tannins and toffee sweetness, moving into a bolder and lingering finish of oak, tannins, bourbon, toffee and burnt, charred malt flavors. Some alcohol and a touch of acidity lingers as well, with a hint of tartness. Not all that appealing.
PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. Creamy up front, goes down okay with a scratch at the swallow and an acidic twang as well, finishing slightly mouth-coating. Some heat and alcohol lingers.
OVERALL: This one didn’t quite work out to my tastes per se. The look was good and the nose was promising, but the flavors were a little harsh and acidic and the palate a touch too abrasive. Not quite my beer and definitely not something I’d run after again. De Molen does amazing stuff but I’ll pass on this one.
