330ml bottle, an "Intensely hopped Imp. IPA" - well, let's see about that, shall we?
This beer pours a hazy, particle-strewn medium copper amber colour, with one anemic finger of puffy, somewhat foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves random island profile lace around the glass as things slowly seep away.
It smells of sharp pine needles, hot citrus vodka, bready caramel malt, a twinge of biscuity toffee, white pepper, mild tropical fruit, and further leafy, grassy hops. The taste is rather sweet bready and grainy caramel malt, white grapefruit and blood orange citrus pith, edgy grassy, spicy, and leafy hop bitters, a certain white chalkiness, and more wet (in both the damp and soused senses) pine needle astringency.
The carbonation is quite understated in its plainly frothing meanderings, the body a solid middleweight, and sort of smooth, the heat and heh, hop intensity just not letting things be, now, eh? It finishes off-dry, as it has to, but not before said hop acridity has had its lurid way with things.
Yeah, it's intense, but more from an ABV measure (8.1%) that seems a bit too big for its britches, than any particular hop intransigence. Hops do abound, however, in a pas de deux of pine and fruit dub-step. Anyways, a tasty affair, despite the weird heat, and interesting enough in its darker corners to warrant additional exploration, I would proffer.
