Beer trivia: This beer is pronounced "Hane en Veer", according to a Dutchman whom I spoke to. Why a double-E would be "A" in the first word and "E" in the last makes no sense.
What a wacky language! This beer would go GOOD with FOOD, though I suppose....

The pour from the tap was torturously slow and foamy, but well worth the wait.

It is a deep copper color with a thick foamy white head. It has a very sweet nose, and slightly citrus-y.
The initial taste is malt & sugar but a hint of bitterness creeps in at the end. The alcohol is very present. Absolutely delicious.
I was most impressed with the mouthfeel. It is thicker than some other Belgian/ Belgian-style brews that I've had and that suits this beer.

You may not like it if you're not a fan of sweets but there is a residual bitterness that builds a bit as the glass empties.

My glass emptied far too soon. I'll have another, please!

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

Pours golden orange with a white head. The aroma is citrus, yeast and a lot of spiciness, both pepper and coriander. The flavor is more of the same with the coriander and orange flavors going well together. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

330m bottle. "Back and Forth", the name proclaims. But from what?

This beer pours a slightly hazy, dark orangish amber hue, with three fingers of tight, foamy white head, which leaves a few Southwest-worthy mesas of patchy lace around the glass as it genially sinks away.

It smells of sugary pale malt, sharp, yet sweet orange citrus, a bit of forest floor pine essence, and a middling green yeastiness. The taste is sweet fruity malt - wine wine concentrate, dried apricot - more hefty, bloated pale malt, some soft, sassy spice, redolent of coriander, I suppose, and equally brazen leafy, weedy hops. There may be grass in there, but it's hidden like the FBI's knocking on the front door.

The carbonation is quite frothy, but not really a concern, the body a nondescript medium weight, and smooth, but for a latent edgy, metallic snag, likely due to the burbling booze quotient. It finishes sweet, the saccharine bready malt, and attendant fruitiness offset in only a minor amount by the lingering hops, and heretofore ethereal booze.

I sense that this was intended to be something like a Belgian IPA - a hoppy tripel, or whatever. It turns out that it gets the tripel part down pat; however, the hops seem lost in the mire, though this takes little away from the overall experience. Enjoyable in its own right, and with just too little of that extra zazz, I am most certainly most to and fro about this one.

I bought this beer at the Struise in Oostvleteren during my summer holidays of 2011. It was time well spend. :)

A - An hazy amber/golden colored beer with an off white head. There are some carbonation bubbles racing to the top, but I think that's because of a dirty glass. (I was at my father in law's place again. I brought the beer, he the glasses)

S - Nice and fresh because of the citrus hops and a light pine presence.

T - O! what a nice triple, why didn't I try this one earlier. A light sweet taste upfront, coriander, hops and a nice bitterness.

M - The carbonation is heavy but never unpleasant. The finish is nice and slightly sticky and than comes the bitterness.

O - I really don't understand the other rating, this is good stuff. I will buy this again. I was completely surprised by the taste, nicely done. My bottle had aged for 1/2 year, maybe that's why.

Bottle imported by Bar Volo. Very sweet, better spiciness at room temperature. Coriander, orange peel, and sweet yeast. Drinkable and smooth mouthfeel. Some lace lines. Not what you expect from a triple, or from the brewery. Not too complex but Ok to try.

A: Lots and lots of carbonation and head, a dark honey color, hazy.
S: Almost IPAish. An edge of plastic on the nose but mixed with a yeasty honey. Minus the plastic, very nice.
T: Complex. Distinct layers. There's a cardboard taste, a certain tree, sage, a syrupy sap sweetness. Very interesting! A tripel? I'm not so sure. Unlike any other tripel I've had.
M: Smooth and round
O: Certainly a beer where I intellectualize the flavors, although in terms of repeated drinking, it's not a session beer. It's a thinkers beer.

Pours amber with a massive head.
Nose shows wheat, doughy yeast, pears and spicy phenols. Unfortunately the doughy character is very strong, almost overpowering.
Flavours include loads of alcohol, pretty sweet with lots of candi sugar. A little too much booze and sweetness.
Nice body and high carbonation, helps cut the sweetness.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orangey color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and not much carbonation. Aroma consists of overly sweet malt base with not much else to report. Taste is dominated by overly sweet malt with lacking ester and not much character from the yeast which is usually element that I look for in this style. Body was full with medium to low carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not sure if this was a bad bottle but serious lack of complexity or attenuation.

De Molen brewery has very interesting stuff, but this 'Heen & Weer' was very disappointing. It could be a misfortunate bottling, but it was just no good to me.

Very flat, light brown. Hardly any carbonation. Disappointing.

Smell and taste are very malty and yeasty, with a fruity sourness as well.
Equal in the taste, with a load of alcohol in it. Metallic, funky. I don't know how to describe it, but turned off by this beer, I'm sorry to say... It's strong alcoholic, and hardly any flavour at all.
I wonder if this was a bad sample, a bad bottling.
In this case, i only took one sip, and got rid of the rest.

330ml bottle.(Bottled on Nov´11,enjoyed on Jan´14). Tripel Karmeliet Oversized Chalice glass. Burnish brass color, foggy appearance. Yellowish off-white foam, creamy & lasting crown. Perfumed aroma displays brown sugar, candies, molasses, ripe fruit –lychis- spices & herbs as well as coriander, biscuit & slight phenolic notes –those last both in flavor & aroma. Malty, sweet & warming upfront. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Dense texture & subtle spicy on palate. Gentle herbal & delicate bitterness. Sweet finish & fruity aftertaste. Well felt but integrated ABV.

Served on-draught into stemware at De Molen in Bodegraven. Reviewed from notes taken July 2010. 9.5% ABV.

A: Pours a one finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, and below average retention. Body colour is a semitransparent copper.

Sm: Smokey notes, amber hops, caramelized malt, light cherry hints, and yeast. A mild strength aroma.

T: Strange. Caramelized malt, off-cherry ester notes, biscuity yeasty notes. A very strange build with no real definite direction or focus. Feels lopsided and horribly imbalanced. Quite the mess. Completely off the mark for a tripel.

Mf: Smooth, wet, and undercarbonated. Very meh. I've noticed major carbonation issues with De Molen across the board.

Dr: The 9.5% is dangerously well hidden, but at 8 euro a pint, I expect more than this unflattering taste. I wouldn't get this again. A poor effort from De Molen.

Pours a rusty orange/red color, cream-colored head, thin cap. Aroma is fruity, toasted malts, pretty sweet. Flavor is burnt sugars, malts, carmel, and more fruity sweetness. Medium body, high carbonation.

This beer really doesn't do much for me, and there's a lot of other Tripel's I'd rather have other this one.

Had this beer together with my father fresh from the Molen Brewery. Poured into a de Molen sniffer. The beer pours a very cloudy dark orange-amber with some yeast pellets floating in solution, with a small white head.

Smell: Sharp spices (coriander, pepper), fresh fruits (lemon), some orange zest, hops and alcohol

Taste: Malts and hops are mostly present. Bitter for a tripel. There is some sweetness, just enough to balance the beer a bit. Also sharp spices appear (pepper, and coriander again), alcohol is present, hints of fresh lemon and orange zest. The aftertaste is strong bitter.

Mouthfeel: medium-low carbonation. Medium bodied.

Overall: tripel beers will never be my favorite, so neither is this one. The beer is quite bitter for a tripel, maybe even a bit too bitter. Still, a nice brew, and I guess if ones likes the style, worth trying

This brew pours a golden yellow hue with decent carbonation that leaves behind a one finger head and a rim of lacing, the smell of this brew is very herbal with aromas of corriander, pepper, citrus and bananna peels,it has only an average mouthfeel which could be a little bit thicker in my eyes for this style and has tastes of corriander, barnyard funk, belgian yeast and i swear im getting a creamed rice flavour at the end of this brew aswell which makes this tripel finish quite sweet and bready, overall its definately not one of this breweries finest brews thats for sure even though its still easy enough to drink at its price and the selection of other fine beers from this brewery i wont be revisiting this one in a hurry with my hard earned.
