11.2oz red waxed capped bottle drank out of my duvel tulip. a questionable choice for a 97degree day, but it just called my name. review #1000.

A- the pour yields a very murky reddish brown body with barely any head on top at all. what there is appears cream colored and becomes no more than a crown in a matter of seconds. nothing is left on the sides of glass as far as lacing goes.

S- the massive amount of alcohol makes itself apparent immediately. after that i get some intense sweetness from brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and a variety of fruits. plums, figs, dates, raisins, and cherries. very faint earthy hops finish this one off.

T- the taste starts off with more of the sweet malts that i could smell. caramel and toffee lead the way, with brown sugar coming in after that. then come the fruits. cherries, raisins, plums, dates, and figs. there are faint earthy hops at the end. the alcohol seems very well hidden for something this large.

M- the body is on the upper side of medium. the carbonation is on the extreme low side without being actually gone, which really works well here. palate coating and syrupy. moderate warmth from the alcohol which is more than ok for something this massive.

O- obviously too strong to drink more than one of, and the one i drank took me some time. a definite sipper, but very enjoyable. ill definitely be picking some more of this up to see how it ages. the bottle claims it can stand up after 25 years in a cellar.

Thanks to Phil for sending me this in a trade!

Poured deep maple with a very slight trail of bubbles. Perfectly clear, the light produces a brilliant deep amber glow. Lots of caramel and toffee here. Very nicely balanced sweetness that lasts the entire sip followed by an earthy bitterness. Low carbonation works for this sipper. Thick and chewy body. Quite an awesome beer indeed!

Vintage 2012.

The colour is amber (25 EBC), the liquid is clear. The two finger head is compact and off-white; it sinks very slowly leaving some lacing on the glass.

The smell is sweet and a bit sour. Some bitterness, raisins, ripe apples, green plants, minerals, and smooth alcohol. It is quite strong, although I have expected even more sweetness.

The taste is very, very sweet. Apple juice, minerals, ripe red fruits and some biscuits. Medium to full body. The aftertaste is also sweet with raisins and dried fruits, minerals and chalk. The long finish is sweet with lots of toffee.

The carbonation is strong, the small bubbles are long-lasting. The liquid is thick and sticky, yet a bit dry.

There is almost no alcohol in the taste which is impressive. There are lots of mineral-chalk in this one, a bit too much I think.

A little over two years old, 11.2 oz. bottle filled to within a mm of the cap.

a: Slightly hazy golden amber; poured a small, big bubbled head.

s: Boozy raisins and plums and molasses; sherry and a hint of oxidation; sugary toffee. Very enticing.

t: Bit of a let down from the smell. Lots more sugar than fruit. A little raisin flavor, tons of sugary sherry, and some oxidation.

m: Big and syrupy with gentle carbonation.

o: The label says this can age for 25 years. Wouldn't this just get sweeter and sweeter over time? Anyway, this was interesting to try but I think I would have preferred a fresher bottle with a stronger hop presence.

11.2 fl oz. bottle with quite the intricate and detailed label. Brewed on 15 April 2010, and bottled 19 August 2010, so this beer is about three years and two months old, making this probably the second oldest beer I've ever had, next to the Mikkeller / BrewDog Devine Rebel I drank yesterday, which is also an English barleywine.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours a thick viscous muddy mahogany caramel colored body with no head, no bubbles, and no lacing. Looks even more flat than yesterday's beer. Some dark specks of sediment noticeable.

S - Not getting too much in the way of smell, but the beer is still pretty cold. Some caramel, taffy apples, and some cinnamon sticks. Getting some burnt brown sugar and some dark fruit presence like figs, dates, and prunes also. Some alcohol fumes on the finish.

T - Taste is pretty nice. I'm getting lots of caramel covered apple goodness, some booze heat, and some dark fruit flavor in the background.

M - Feel is thick, syrupy, sweet, sticky, and boozy. A bit of alcohol heat on the finish. Heavy bodied with pretty much zero carbonation.

Overall, I quite enjoyed it, although I don't think it held up quite as well as the Mikkeller / BrewDog Devine Rebel did, but that's another story. I love the caramel and apple flavors present here, they are truly great. Very high 15.20% abv is noticeable, but doesn't feel nearly that high, although I'm sure it is destined to doom me. Recommended.
