Pros: Such a unique and big flavor. Incredibly malty, rich, delicious. Finish is 20+ seconds, dark chocolate, espresso, peanut butter, fudge, dark fruit, resin hop. Terrific flavor.

Cons: The low carbonation level does hurt many factors of the beer, but it is such an exquisitely brewed offering, it's only a minor issue.

An amazing beer. A great beer for the cellar.

Look: Syrupy pour with delicious, creamy, average size, dark mocha head. Has good retention, bubbles popping away slowly, creates a creamy, thick top layer, which leaves very fine lacing. Some carbonation visible on the side of the glass. Dark, dark brown, can't see through. Some yeast bodies sediment to the bottom. Everything as it should be.

Smell: Roasted coffee with caramel and dark chocolate up front. Also some milk chocolate with dried plums, nuts and vanilla. A bit of freshness from sour dark berries, dark fruit. It's sweet, fat, creamy, stuffy, you can feel those 24 Plato degrees that went into this beast. Couldn't stop smelling it - rich, as soon as you find one note, another one comes along.

Taste: Medium (to high) sweetness, starts with mostly caramel and some burned sugar, milk chocolate with light berry sourness (makes it fresher and juicier), dry plums. Then it transfers into dominant roasted coffee with some dark chocolate. Roasted coffee driven medium to high bitterness with a tiny bit of alcohol finish the ride. Some soft chocolaty notes come out deep in the after-taste.

Mouthfeel: Full body, creamy almost syrupy. A very faint hint of alcohol warmth. A big, fat beast.

Overall: It's quite a beer. A fat one, full of darker malt wonders. Good play of flavours and balanced but still relatively demanding - not for your everyday, but well worth your time, when you have that fat stout urge.

From a 330 ml bottle (label says February 29, 2012) into a snifter. My bottle says 10.0% ABV, not 10.2%.

A-The pour is heavy and syrupy. The beer mostly lacks head. Instead, a thin cap fades to collar immediately. No lacing on the glass. The beer is black and still-looking.

S-The aroma is a big, bold mixture of cream, milk and dark dark chocolate, a touch of dark-roasted coffee and some caramel. There is a hint of roasty bitterness that is balanced nicely by the sweetness of the caramel. Alcohol is hidden.

T-The taste tracks the smell. This is a rich and creamy flavored beer with lots of chocolate, cocoa, and a bit of roasted coffee. The caramel is somewhat less assertive on the palate than on the nose, but there is a bit of roasted barley and toast there now. Again, the 10.0% ABV is hidden in there.

M-The feel is thick, syrupy and flat. Sort of a let-down.

O-This would be a world class stout if it had some (even a tiny bit) carbonation. The aroma and taste are intense, balanced, and pretty damn delicious. It almost tastes barrel-aged with little hints of bourbon and vanilla in there. I will definitely consider buying another bottle of this to see if I just got a bad seal or if the brewer really intended the beer to be flat.
