One of my favorites, very fortunate to be able to drink it on tap several times in Amsterdam and at the De Molen. Wish the bottles were more consistent in Colorado.

Opens with to much carbonation, almost seems like it might be a little infected. Pours thick and viscous with a mocha brown head, that leaves great lacing the entire way down the glass. Smells like dark malt, little caramel, little coffee coming through. Tastes like coffee, burnt cocoa and dark malts. No burn from the 10.2 abv, finishes a little dry but leaves me wanting more and more.

Picked up a 750ml in a trade with Dawson's Liquor in Severna Park, MD and poured it into a Tripel Karmeliet tulip glass - thanks fellas!

On the Bottle:
Brewed on 28 August 2008
Bottled on 27 August 2008
Bittered with Premiant hops
Final hops German Hallertau
99.9 EBU's

282 bottles from this batch - bottle # 59 of 282

A: Bottle corked with nearly no pop (3 years on the shelf zapped most of the carbonation from the bottle) and poured dark black with a very thin head that dissipates instantly, leaving no lacing in my glass at all.

S: Burnt toast and soy sauce up front that mellows out a bit to reveal nice earthy hop presence, dark chocolate and sweet malt. What a great balance of diverse characteristics!

T: As with the nose, the flavor does not disappoint and blends an array of diverse and interesting flavors to produce an Imperial Stout that is above average and unique.

Big time dark chocolate and grassy hop that get rounded out by bitter flavors of roasted coffee beans - the back end reveals a bit of its 10.5% ABV, finishing with a hint of booze and some raisiny port flavor in there as well.

M: Here's where I was a little let down (as with the appearance as well) - the lack of carbonation really kills the body making it a bit thin and weak for a brew with so many good things going on. It does however finish very clean with some lingering bitterness from the good amount of hops in this brew.

Hell and Damnation!
