Bottled 1/13. Bourbon barrel aged at 10%. Pours a near black with very dark brown edges, one finger thick soapy light brown head. Settles to a thin layer with a few streaks of lace on the glass. Smell: chocolate cake batter. Tons of chocolate, no roast, sweet (faded) bourbon note, molasses and prune. Taste: dark chocolate brownies, tons of dark brown sugar, earthy note, toasted brown bread note. Mostly it's sweet and chocolaty with added booze sweetness. Full bodied, low carbonation, syrupy-light feel. Tasty.

A-Pours black! Good start. The body barfs up a spongy, brown head that slowly deflates. Leaves random, thick lacing.
S-It's hard to describe how the aroma is unique but it is. It's super roasty with chocolate, but aren't all the good Stouts like that? There is something about this one that smells unique. Maybe a sip will enhance my ability to describe...
T-It really reminds me of chocolate covered hazelnuts. Well, maybe not just hazelnuts but a medley of nuts. Also it reminds me of nut flavored coffee. There is also a cool cola aspect to the flavor as well.
M-It's nearly flat...I remember reading on the label that you could age this for 25 years. Well I guess they're going for that flatness because there is no way it'll be more carbonated when I'm 50. It's got a big body with booze that isn't shy.
O-Pretty tasty. Carves it's own niche in a style that I find hard to find flavor intricacies.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter. Bottle stamped 23 JAN. 2014.
A: Pours a smooth, deep cola brown with just a thin skim of dark tan head that quickly dissipates.
S: Dry leather, wood, caramel malt, brown sugar, and a hint of tobacco. Tending toward dark and sweet notes.
T: Caramel malt (distinct English brown malt) and smooth cream up front. In the mid-palate, this takes a distinct turn toward harsher and darker notes...burnt wood, supple and old leather, a fresh alcohol bite, dark and bitter chocolate, and a hint of dark tobacco cigar. With warming, spicy pepper (almost cayenne-like), toffee, and licorice notes emerge. Very good to start and becomes near perfect with warming.
M: Wow...a definite highlight of the beer. Starts surprisingly light (medium body) given the ABV. Also begins smooth, sweet, and creamy. Then turns toward bitter with an alcohol burn (still retains the sweetness...now heavier and darker though). Tremendous lingering finish...bittersweet and slightly astringent. Sweetly sticky feel.
D: The further I got into this beer, the more I liked it. Deceivingly complex. Very interesting as far as the style goes...not your typical RIS (most are harsh and dark straight through; this one starts lighter, smoother, and highlights the English brown malt...before turning toward more traditional RIS notes). Glad I got to try it...seek it out! The bottle says it can be enjoyed within 25 years; I got a couple more to see...

Had this several times during our tastings.
Very dark brown, nearly black. Off white head when it's carbonated, otherwise it leaves a faint trace of bubbles. Lots going on here. Huge notes of coffee grinds, dark chocolate, burnt toast, leather, earth, cremini mushrooms, figs, and prunes. Layers and layers repeat themselves as you smell and sip. Medium bodied, alcohol barely noticeable. I highly recommend this great example of a RIS.
