look: 4.5 | smell: 4.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: It has a nice almost jet black color to it. It has a nice creamy tan head that dies down moderately slow and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of cocoa, espresso, a bunch of roasted malts, vanilla, oak and cognac. Smells fantastic.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some roasted malts, cocoa, espresso, faint vanilla, a touch of dark fruit, oak and cognac.

Mouthfeel: It has a low-medium carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by great flavors and aromas. Delightful stuff!

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle number 034.

Appearance - Inky black. Stains the glass. Medium khaki head.

Smell - Sharp roasted malt. Very intense roasted aroma. Dark fruit.

Taste - Dark fruits and lots of oak. Intense roasted malt. Almost burnt. Coffee malts. Woody finish.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Heavy stout. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - I don't get any of the cognac in the wood chips, but otherwise it's a fantastic stout.

Thanks to Lurkaholic for generously giving me this one. Bottle number 2840.

A: Pitch black with a slight mocha head that settled around the edges of the glass.

S: Coconut, oak, cognac, marshmallow, espresso.

T: Cognac, oak, espresso, coconut, marshmallow.

M: Medium viscosity and a medium level of fine carbonation.

O: A beautiful beer. Not boozy at all, with very delicious flavours.

Friend in Alberta brought this to me. Bottle 449. Bottled December 2013.

A - Pours pitch black with one finger of beige head. A small ring of lace and a film of retention left over.

S - Wood, dark fruit, spirit note. Strong spirit note, alcohol. Pleasant stuff.

T - Boozy with lot's of spirit notes. Licorice, lot's of dark fruit. Dry, burnt grain.

M - Mild carbonation, full body, boozy dry finish.

O/D - This was a touch bit of a letdown. The barrel was very strong and really seems to have taken over. It's complex and enjoyable, tasty and rich. Not bad.
