Dark opaque colour, with a dense off white head, good lace. Smell of dates, raisins, chocolate, caramel dried fruits. Srong palate, full body, sticky. Taste of dried fruits, chocolate, port wine, licorice, alcohol, caramel, dates. A bomb.

Bottled in 2012

A: Pours a deep brown, nearly black with a large frothy khaki head that slowly fades.

S: Some sweet malts, chocolate and dark fruits. Get some molasses too, subtle earth as well. Very inviting smell.

T: Lots of chocolate up front, with dark fruit, molasses and a nice sweetness, that does not overpower. A bit of booze comes through as well.

M: Medium bodied and smooth, with a nice sweetness and solid carbonation. A nice sipping beer that is great even as it warms. A bit more body might benefit.

O: A real solid beer here, not akin to many of the BSDAs I've had. I get much more chocolatey sweetness than I'd expect, but I dig it!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours opaque black with a twon finger tan head with good retention and pillowy lacing. Aroma of molasses, dark toasted malt and more molasses. Flavor is sweet dark dried fruit, mainly dates and raisins, marizpan, slightly nutty and toasty. Sweet dark fruit finish with hints of chocolate, dark malt and tannins. Medium bodied with pleasant peppery carbonation. A quite nice Belgian dark, a bit on the sweet side, but rich dark flavors that support the sweetness. Warming, but the ABV is well covered. The most molasses I've ever encountered in an ale aroma. Molasses is not a major element of the flavor, however. The pour lead me to think I was pouring a dark stout and the flavor somewhat surprised me. Even translated, but name doesn’t give anything away. I enjoyed this, but its sweetness makes it kind of a dessert sipper. Nice for a cool, dark evening.

Bottle date: 13/02/2012

Appearance: Very dark brown, with a nice 1/4" of tan head that sticks around. No light gets through except for through the stem.

Aroma: Dark fruit and twizzlers jump out at first, with a strong sweetness, and good alcohol presence. Further notes of brown sugar and raisins come through, with molasses undertones throughout.

Taste: Much lighter body than expected, but still nice. There is some bitterness, but not a ton. Licorice and molasses come through most, with a strong alcohol presence. The roasted and toasted notes linger, but the sweet fruit/licorice flavors fade relatively quickly.

Overall: A very good beer, with a well rounded flavor that sits and lets you sip for a while. I'd like to try a fresh one, but there are no dated bottles in my local shop.

Pours a four finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Dark opaque brown color, some yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Molasses nose and flavor is molasses, chocolate and dark cherry. Better flavor as it warms. Higher ABV is hidden. 330ml bottle $6.99 Julio's Liquors Marlboro, MA.
