Another de Molen beer. Like usual very experimental, first of all it’s hardly to classify it’s style. The colour is brown, dark amber. Average head and average lacing. The aroma is very nice, some dark fruit esters combined with malts and caramel, some basement aromas. It has some features of belgian ale like characteristic yeasty and malty aroma. Taste is bitter but not striking bitter, some sweet malts in the middle and in aftertaste. Noticable pils malts. The textute is rather thick, average carbonation and medium body. Molenbier is another well balanced de Molen beer, which has some features of pilsner, belgian and english ale. Interesting but did not knocked me down.

Hard to classify these De Molen brews. They seem highly experimental. This one seems a mix between pilsner and belgian strong dark ale. Online says it's maybe an english strong ale. In any case, it's unique as most of their brews are.
49 EBU, brewed 22 june 2011.

Murky brown, with beige head. Smell slightly tart, with some roasty character. Taste very pure bitterness. Saaz hops are dominating the drink: it's obvious and strong. Alcohol is present . Some sweet malts too.

Very good drinking experience. Nice wild yeasty character.

7.5%. Served on-draught into De Molen stemware at De Molen in Bodegraven. Reviewed from notes taken July 2010.

A: Pours a 2.5 finger head of fair cream, nice thickness, and good retention - especially for the high ABV. Colour is a textbook amber. Nontransparent but not a solid opaque colour.

Sm: Cream, caramelized malt, and barley. A moderate aroma of mainly malt. Some buried fruit ester is present but hard to find.

T: Caramelized malt alongside badly handled cream. Amber hops and a bit of butterscotch. Complex enough and pretty well balanced, but underwhelming.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Not at all suitable for the flavour profile. Severely flawed.

Dr: Very drinkable. The ABV is well disguised. It's fairly priced but underwhelming and forgettable. Drinks like a failed experiment. I wouldn't have it again.
