Amber golden hued with a bit of haziness. A quarter inch of white head covers most of the top of the beer. Brussels lacing. Aroma of piney hops and biscuity malt is prevalent. The front of the palate is bitter piney hops which fades into biscuity malt and then back to a more subtle bitter piney hop fade. The mouth is bit chalky and bone dry.

Seeing Double makes good use of the debut of a Spiegelau Double IPA tulip. A rich amber (SRM 10-12), chill-hazed with occasional carbonation. The long-lasting head is one and one-half inches creamy off-white and leaves a coating of lace.

Fresh citrus rind and pine resin open, shortly followed by pineapple and caramel. Warmth brings out a hint of mint and ginger powder.

As expected from a Double IPA, this one is quite bitter, front to back. Pine sap and light sweetness are throughout with muted grapefruit, orange rind and a touch of mango. The long finish is modest in comparison to the opening.

Surprisingly modest carbonation within a full-bodied beer. The alcohol is as anticipated. A satin texture and light metallic astringency make this quite dry.

Foothills has stepped up to the Double IPA hype, however the hop flavors could be accentuated. Bitterness will easily match wings on Superbowl Sunday.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. Bottleneck says 01302014.

A- Pours a clean medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before reducing to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and various thicknesses of surface foam. Sudsy non-resilient lacing.

S- Pungent and grassy hop aroma that also brings citrus notes like pineapple and grapefruit.

T- The citrus flavors come through in the flavor well coupled with a firm but controlled bitterness. Very drinkable for the ABV and the grass notes linger on the tongue for a bit. Juicy and tangy.

M- Vibrant and sharp with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- I really dig how fruit-forward this DIPA is while having a solid bitterness that's not overbearing. Foothills knows their hops.
