Notes/Commercial Description:
People's Porter is a robust English-style brew with a dark, ruby hue. Complex chocolate, caramel and toffee notes give way to an herbal bitterness, finishing with a pleasant hint of espresso.

The People's Porter, a beer for the people. This beer is exactly what its name implies, a nice, solid, hard working beer. It tastes of the black morning coffee of a salaryman, the bread of a factory worker's lunch, and even a few notes of a caramel or vanilla like the manager might sneak at the end of the day. All in all the proletariat (as well as Foothills) should be proud to call this their beer. It's one of the more drinkable porters I have found due to its pleasant balance of flavors and (relatively speaking for a porter) low gravity. It is especially good for finishing off a six pack by yourself while watching football, avoiding your extended family, and waiting for day-before-Thanksgiving dinner to be made.

Appearance: Pours with a coffee brown color capped by a three-fingered ecru head; squiggles of lacing line the glass

Smell: Toasted brown bread and chocolate with hints of vanilla and coffee

Taste: Toast and chocolate, up front, with the coffee and vanilla tones building in the middle; fades a bit in the finish though the chocolate tones linger

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This bottle has been in my cellar for a while so the hops have faded but that is just fine with me as I find Foothills dark beers tend to be a bit hoppy for my palate; I like the way this has aged just fine

A: Pours a dark chestnut color with a one finger tan head that settles down to a light cap over the surface.

S: Roasted malt, coffee and espresso right away. Just a bit of chocolate in there as well.

T: Lots of roasted malt with some day old coffee and some citrusy hops trying to pull through the malt. Finish gives a touch of toffee, hop resin and some charred espresso. Seems like the flavors start to fall apart a bit as it warms, but this is a pretty solid porter. Glad I got to try this.

Poured into a Dogfish signature snifter. Bottleneck says 03052014.

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 1/2 inch tan head that retains well before slowly falling to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a jagged ring behind.

S- Dark roast brings notes of milk chocolate, vanilla and caramel.

T- Moderate roastiness plus a solid shot of hop bitterness. Semisweet with a noticeable alcohol presence. Slightly charry aftertaste.

M- Decent amount of viscosity even for a porter. Medium carbonation and a full body.

O- A straightforward porter that doesn't really stand out among others but is solid enough. I guess that's why it's the "People's" porter.
