A - Golden body, mostly clear, with a white head that has good retention and lacing.

M - Medium body and carbonation, smooth consistency with moderate bitterness.

S/T - Similar, with grapefruit flesh, floral, pine resin, sweet caramel malt, yet stays bitter through the finish.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Boulevard Ales pint glass
From: Trader Joe’s in Ballantyne (Charlotte), N.C.
Price: $1.67 (I think)
Purchased: July 26, 2014
Consumed: July 29, 2014
Misc.: Appeared to be born in July 2014, but couldn’t read the whole label

Poured a caramel, orange, mostly clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Some bubbles coming up from the bottom. Good amount of foamy, layered, spotty lacing along the sides of the glass. Good retention on the top all the way down.

Smelled Simcoe hops, Columbus hops, citrus hops, grapefruit rind, floral notes, caramel, wet Cascade hops, sharp pine and light resin hops.

Tasted pretty close to the smell. Got wet Cascade hops, spicy Columbus hops, sharp Simcoe hops, citrus hops, some resin hops, floral hops, light grapefruit and sharp pine.

Light-to-medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter, citrusy finish.

A pretty good IPA overall. Would have it again for sure.

I bought this in support of a local brewery, and in search of new, good IPAs.

This is not one of them. For my tastes, this is the worst of what hops are about, nothing but bitter hops.

It looks great on the pour, with a nice deep amber colour. This is an unfiltered beer and mine has lots of floaters noticeable. The smell is indicative of what's to come, resinous and sharp with the hops. Taste is all hops, nothing special or floral or outstanding except the bitterness. Mouthfeel is nice enough, well carbonated but not so much to overpower the somewhat thick texture of this unfiltered brew.

I'd still drink this over the big AALs, but that still isn't saying much.
