A - Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Pours dark brown, almost black, with mahogany highlights and a thin, tightly foamed dark khaki head.

S - Smells of cocoa, chalky bittersweet dark chocolate, faint coffee, and some smokiness.

T - A really woody, charred smokiness up front with some dark fruits, and just the faintest charcuterie essence. Finish is sweet, grapey, and slightly alcoholic.

M - Slightly viscous, velvety, medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.

22 oz bottle from 2010.

Pours a thick, dark chocolate color with a thick, bubbly cream-tan head. Thick sheets of lace and long lasting retention. Nose of roast, milk chocolate, bitter citrus, powdered chocolate, and caramel malt. Medium full body, thick on palate with fine carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. Flavor is bitter orange, dark chocolate, light roast grain. Mouth feels like an ashtray after finish, thought the flavor is never particularly roasty or ashy.

Poured an almost blackish body with decent head that died quick and some lace on top of a dark chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Taste is more of the same as it is less sweet and more of a bitter, dark chocolate taste and has some toffee and a strong roasted, bready sensation. Fuller bodied, not watery smooth but not sticky, either, and goes down easy with a dry finish. Not the most flavorful or complex porter one will find but hit the spot and an enjoyable beer.

Bomber into a snifter. This bottle has been cellared for no less than 2 years. It pours black in color with a rich khaki head. Some patchy to webby lace sticks to the glass. Solid powers of retention are shown with rising bubbles maintaining a finger of suds atop.

The aroma is roasty grain smelling like chocolate with hints of anise. Some citrus hops are still present along with a dark raisony alcohol inclusion. It gets somewhat nutty and milk chocolate-like towards the back.

The taste includes notes of bitter cocoa and raisons. Some dark sugar element like maple, earth and even fruity likr prunes. A slight nutty roast aspect is felt towards the back with almost a hint of molasses and caramel. There is a milky chocolate to earthen flavor that evolves towards the finish.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is smooth, easy drinking yet quite complex with nearly a crisp finish. This is a very nice brew that honestly tastes seemingly identical to what it was like 2-3 years ago. Cellaring this has seemingly done nothing to benefit or degrade this brew.
