Poured into my favorite Goose Island glass.
A: Nice carbonation and pour from this one. About 2 fingers of caramel head pop up from an aggressive pour. A few swirls revive the carbonation before my first whiff. 4.0
S: Surprisingly, not much there. Dark chocolate and roasted malts are present, but nothing overwhelming or amazing. 3.5
T: Bingo. What I was hoping for in smell is made up for in taste. A great balance of roast and smooth, milky chocolate with light bitterness on the end. Absolutely hit the nail on the head. No trace of alcohol on this at all. Easily could be confused with a 6% porter. 4.5
M: The carbonation and thickness are balanced really well. Just enough carb to make the chocolate and milkyness smooth, and very drinkable. 4.5
O: Definately wish I had more of this one and will attempt to track another bottle down the road. 4.5

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is jet black with mahogany highlights around the edges, and a frothy, low profile, dense, light tan head. Aromas of roasted highlights, toasted bread, bitter coffee, hints of vanilla, hints of booze, and some earthy and woody highlights. Smells aren't overpowering, but very inviting. Flavors are bitter coffee forward, with heavily roasted qualities. Wood characteristics, old world fruit rich sweetness, and hints of smoke. There is also a building warmth from the increased ABV. This is deep and layered. Robust body, but crisp enough to stay true to style. The aftertaste is heavy roast, subtle smoke, and bitterness. Smooth, slightly dry finish. This is a big beer, and it is damn tasty!
