A fantastic offering, consumed on 02.07.08 at Snapshot Cafe in Greenville, South Carolina.
Presented well out of the tap into my PINT glass. Deep and rich, tar like in color. Great head retention, dark tan in color, with respectable lacing along the side of the glass. Aromas rich and crazy thick of roasted malty goodness and definite hints of the organic peruvian cocoa nibs that were infused into the beer - a first to my recollection. Smooth on the palate would be an understatement. The hops and malt dance so well together on this one and the chocolate and almost coffee-like richness add that extra depth of lusciousness. Deceptive is the alcohol in this one. Perhaps my favorite RIS from possibly my favorite regional brewery.

Poured out with a creamy tan head which stuck around longer than most stouts and leveled to a thin covering. A little bit of lacing as well. Sticking the noise into a snifter revealed notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, booze, and sweet tobacco. Taste went well along with the smell. Chocolate and a touch of vanilla and coffee. Mouthfeel was just a bit lacking for a stout, but good carb balance. Overall a pretty good beer which I would try again.
