I'm not good at reviews, but I really enjoyed this beer. I thought there was a good balance of bourbon, coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. The ABV was only 6% so it was pretty drinkable. The only problem with this beer is the mouthfeel. There is a lot of carbonation and I don't really get it. It throws me off. However, I respect Foothills a lot so I do have some bias. I'd get this beer again because I think there are some complexities. Cheers.

Pours dark brown/black with a lot (almost too much) of mocha colored head. Good retention and decent lacing.

Not picking up a ton on the nose. Some roast malt, sweet chocolate and a hint of bourbon.

Again not much in the flavor department either. A little roasted malt with just a touch of bourbon. There's a weird sweetness as well that overpowers everything, but it still finishes a little astringent. Almost tastes oxidized as well. Strange for a fresh bottle.

Mouthfeel is probably the downfall of this. Just too much carbonation that doesn't let the flavors shine.

Disappointed in this one. Beer itself is fine, but kind of bland. Being that it is a bourbon aged beer, I would expect much more so the scores are all a bit lower due to the expectation from the style.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick consistency. There was a big, tan-colored, foamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A strong aroma of malt, bourbon, and chocolate.

T: Tasted of bourbon (strong, but not overly so), malt, a slight hoppy quality, and some chocolate in the finish. A milder flavor than I expected, but complex and pretty tasty.

M: A fair amount of carbonation with a somewhat slick finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: If you enjoy barrel-aged beers this would be a beer to try. Drinkable.

A- Explosion of head (not in a good way) The bit of beer that is in my 22oz snifter is very dark brown/black. 4" of tan head sitting atop it though

S- Surprisingly faint on the nose. Hint of bourbon and roast but not much else there at all.

T- Hint of bourbon, hint of roast, lots of foam. Maybe some oxidation as well? Not a huge fan

M- Way too carbonated. Not digging this

O- Dissapointment

A: Dark brown, almost opaque, but can see slight bright cherry hue when held to the light. A milk chocolate 1 finger high head.

S: Oak and boubon, butterscotch, tons of alcohol and slight hint of dark earthy malts.

T: Pleasantly surprised. I get the oak and bourbon and scotch flavours, then a definite porter with its dark earthy black licorice, burnt and black toast qualities which are quite subdued compared to the oak. Balanced and refreshing compared to what I was expecting, and I’m not getting the alcohol in the flavour as on the nose. Some bitter linger.

M: Not oily or syrupy as I was suspecting, rather medium, only slight heavy body that rolls off the tongue and gives a light refreshing feel for such a dark beer.

O: Love it, surpassed my expectations. Had too many heavy bodied stouts lately and this impresses me with flavour and relative lightness for a porter that displays balance. It especially is balanced for one that’s barrel aged. Great by itself or with light cheeses. Would gow well with game as well.

22 oz. bomber poured into a lager version of the Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid comes out a dark brown with mahogany highlights when held up to the light. HUGE coffee with a little bit of cream brown colored head with various size bubbles. It absolutely erupts up to the top and you have to take some time pouring this bad Larry out. Actually some lacing too, not too crazy, but it's there.

Smell is good, really good. Good roasty factor, coffee/chocolate mix with a slight bit of toffee and hints of dark fruit. To top it off it's barrel aged, so hints of bourbon and vanilla. Good blend, nothing overly aggressive and pretty well blended in the nose.

Taste is good, but a slight step down from the smell though. Still the classic American porter flavors of the malt characteristics, slight bitterness from the hops though that I couldn't quite pick up through the nose. The strongest characteristic is the vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Nothing too strong though, it's all like a nice shelf beer that was barrel aged. Well blended flavors.

Mouthfeel is good, actually very good. My issue with some of these barrel aged beers is once you smell and taste them, one naturally expects a "big" beer, and this one isn't. Not that it's a bad thing, this could very easily be an up and coming style, I've seen several breweries botch this where Foothills has done a great job, I hope they set the standard. So the mouthfeel is thinner and lighter than expected. Still has a good carbonation level. Starts off nice and sweet and has a sharp but not too sharp finish from the barrel age, but not hot at all. Well balanced overall and SUPER drinkable. This is one you can split with friends, but you better have extra bottles on hand if you do, cause it'll go quick. Any craft beer drinker could polish a bomber off easily. Thanks Paschal for the killer extra.

Dang tasty. Rich, full and smooth. I may have to hunt this one down on tap. Most disappointing this was the nose but it was still excellent. Could smell the wooden barrel. Flavor was port and bourbon. Rich with some full dark fruits. Hints of chocolate and burnt wood. Body was full but not cloying in the least
