Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of bourbon and dry bitter black chocolate is quite interesting. Aroma of medium bourbon notes with some pretty dry and bitter black chocolate notes makes for an interesting drink. Light butterscotch notes could also be detected and I wish more notes of vanilla could be found here. Body is pretty full with a good creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I could see myself having this again.

22oz Bottle - Thanks to Phyl21ca for sharing

Appearance - Black/Brown colour with with an above average size fizzy/frothy light brown head. I can't make out the amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, dark chocolate, wood, burnt/roasted notes

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, chocolate, and some roasted/toasted/burnt nuts. There is also a bit of a smokiness and a touch of bitter coffee flavour and some bourbon. It ends with a grainy/chocolate aftertaste with a bitterness that lingers.

Overall - Really happy to have had the chance to try this one. It was a touch on the bitter side but still very flavourful and you can really taste the quality ingredients used. The bourbon is subtle but still present.

2012 vintage

A: Deep chocolate. barley and head looks like a standard RIS

S: Roasted malt, bourbon, dark chocolate, coco, oak and dark fruits

T: Much like the smell hints of booze come through but are covered quickly by the tasty chocolate and the well balanced bourbon

M: Medium body with gentle, smooth (just-right) carbonation.

O: I enjoyed this beer quite a bit i had it at brewvival last year i don't remember it being that good at all. very impressed with this years vintage

Thanks JD!

The smell has so much bourbon, holy shit. It looks like a good RIS. Pitch black with an off white head. The bourbon dominates the nose, with strong notes of honey, whole bean vanilla, and toasted wood. I love it.

The taste is solid. Strong vanilla heavy bourbon. Loads of full flavored wood heavy bourbon really dominates. vanilla is the main barrel flavor, and in a good way. Boozy in the middle as well, with a good bit of accentuating barrel flavors. I know this was aged in Pappy 20 barrels, and it shows. The bourbon ALMOST takes over the original beer, but it needed to. The base was SO bitter that it needed to mellow out, and it did beautifully. The base malty bitterness has turned into a beauty of a malt. It would be a 5.0 in terms of taste, but BA Blackout takes that. Its just not as sweet and balanced.

A-Pitch black with no head just a tan ring of foam. There was no lacing or cascading. One of the darkest beers I have ever had the privilege of drinking.

S-Bourbon, chocolate, coconut, coffee, and booze. It smells somewhat sweet.

T-Bourbon up front followed by chocolate, coffee, coconut and alcohol. The first few sips seemed very boozy. It is semi-sweet but not overly sweet. Also the bourbon is not overbearing which is a plus, as it just adds another layer of complexity to this beer.

M-Thin and syrupy.

D-Very drinkable, one could definitely drink a couple of these (12 ounce pours) in a sitting.

Overall, this is a very good beer and I am glad I had the privilege to try it. To me its not as good as Kentucky Breakfast Stout, but definitely worth drinking if you have not had it before and I will seek it out again.

2011 vintage serve into a Bruery Tulip

A. Poured a dark cola like color with visible carbonation and mocha head

S. Vanilla, bourbon, baker chocolate and sweetness

T. This is were there was a major disappointment., The baker chocolate and char that I come to like from the base beer was not there and the barrel presence felt like a coke and jack that has been sitting over night.

M. Thin body and prickly cola like carbonation.

In my honest this opinion this was a notch above ba people porter which doesn't say much
