A-Pitch black with no head just a tan ring of foam. There was no lacing or cascading. One of the darkest beers I have ever had the privilege of drinking.

S-Bourbon, chocolate, coconut, coffee, and booze. It smells somewhat sweet.

T-Bourbon up front followed by chocolate, coffee, coconut and alcohol. The first few sips seemed very boozy. It is semi-sweet but not overly sweet. Also the bourbon is not overbearing which is a plus, as it just adds another layer of complexity to this beer.

M-Thin and syrupy.

D-Very drinkable, one could definitely drink a couple of these (12 ounce pours) in a sitting.

Overall, this is a very good beer and I am glad I had the privilege to try it. To me its not as good as Kentucky Breakfast Stout, but definitely worth drinking if you have not had it before and I will seek it out again.

2011 vintage serve into a Bruery Tulip

A. Poured a dark cola like color with visible carbonation and mocha head

S. Vanilla, bourbon, baker chocolate and sweetness

T. This is were there was a major disappointment., The baker chocolate and char that I come to like from the base beer was not there and the barrel presence felt like a coke and jack that has been sitting over night.

M. Thin body and prickly cola like carbonation.

In my honest this opinion this was a notch above ba people porter which doesn't say much

2011 vintage; consumed in February 2012 alongside the regular version

A - pours black in color with small head

S - nose is bourbon that is overwhelmed by lots of chocolate notes

T - nice chocolate notes upfront fade to dark, dry bakers chocolate. These fade to a lot of vanilla and molasses. Ends with these flavors. The two flavors are really well balanced.

M - a little thin, but pretty decent

D - the bourbon is very well integrated into this beer. The BASC cuts out some of the monotony of the regular version. This is the epitome of a barrel enhancing a base beer.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass.

A: Opaque black color with less than one finger of diminishing beige foam head. Scant lacing remains on the glass.

S: Oatmeal and raisins are identifiable. Qualities of the smell are familiar and endearing at first, but get repetitive. Slight coffee is also detected, but alcohol is not.

T: Begins off-dry, with dark chocolate, bourbon, and lesser dark fruit. Moderate acidity develops into the middle where dryness increases while spirit fades before much oak can emerge. The finish is moderately bitter, with lingering dark fruit.

M: Medium viscosity, slightly acidic and warm on the palate, with low carbonation.

D/O: Pleasant in its chocolate quality, but without much bourbon influence beyond the initial burst of flavor to distinguish it as the value-added version of this imperial stout. Not the most well-rounded representative of its style, but hardly a dessert beer.

A: Poured a dark brown with a small mocha head and some lacing

S: Lots of chocolate and subtle barrel notes of oak and some bourbon with alcohol

T: A big roastiness with cocoa and very easy going bourbon notes. Some caramel, vanilla, light wood, caramel and dark fruits

M: Medium to bog body, smooth and creamy with a bite from the alcohol

O: A good BA RIS

Pours black with a small tan head receding into a wisp.

Definite barrel in the nose. Lots of chocolate and licorice still, but toffee, bourbon, vanilla and wood come through strong.

The barrel is well integrated on the flavor. Starts off malty and chocolate with just a kiss of bourbon. Lush vanilla, oak and toffee round out the palate and it finishes with just a slight punch of boozy goodness. The smoky flavor that almost ruins the regular SC is kept in check by the bourbon and retreats to the background as a supporting character where it should be.

Rich and thick without every really being cloying. Low carbonation. Just a hint of alcohol and for the most part hidden well for its ABV.

Barrel treatment turns a good beer into a great beer. Wonderful complex flavors. We mixed the normal and BA versions as well and the result was pretty cool. If you are trying side by side try it.
