Finally. on draft in Winston-Salem at the Foothills taphouse.

Very cloudy deep amber body. The smell is a testament to the hop varietal. Balanced between resinous and fruity. I guess if you had to choose a single hop, this is it. The taste follows suit. Lots of bitterness, almost to an extreme. Toes that line, in a good way. After the bitterness fades, a hint of slick sweet oranges comes in. Finishes very bitter, yet slightly smooth. Not sure its the best IPA, but very good.

A-Pours a nice amber/deep golden color with no head to speak of. There was a bright white ring of foam but no lacing on the glass.

S-Grapefruit, lemon zest, and a hint of pineapple. Not that strong, but definitely good.

T-Much like the nose with grapefruit, pineapple, and a hint of tangerine leading the way with a nice malt backbone. It has an earthy, hoppy finish. It tasted very fresh. It is absolutely delicious.

M-Slick and syrupy as it does not have much carbonation.

D-Through the roof, I could drink this all day.

Overall, I really enjoy this ipa. I gave its overall score a 4.5 due to its high drinkability and phenomenal flavor. If there was more head and lacing it would have scored much higher in the appearance category. It is much better than Hoppyum. I would like to see this available year round as I think its a good ipa, and as far as ipa's I've had from NC its one of the best, if not the best.

First foothills for me and impressed. Nice cloudy golden pour with good head retention. Smell upfront citrus, floral and a touch of grass. Taste has nice depth with upfront citra, floral notes and a smooth bitterness. Feel has a creaminess that is enjoyable

This beer should be interesting. Thanks to Beerness for this one. Dated 01/29/2014 so fairly fresh.

Pours a decent fluffy creamy 1.5 finger head that fades fairly slowly, nice lacing when it does, mostly clear slight sediment honey orange color.

Nose nice citrus tropical hops, clementine, melon, mango, hint of musty resinous passion fruit, all mixed together nicely, nice citrus with mild tropical fruit all around. It also brings a mild earthy very slight piney like hops aroma, almost forest floor but barely, and just a touch of malt underneath.

Taste is nice as well, more of the same hops, mix of citrus and tropical fruit mostly. Some nice tropical fruit to start, a little guava interestingly, hint papaya and touch mango, all are light, with a bit more musty dank resinous notes and some passion fruit with that. Then comes a mild clementine like citrus almost orange, with a little melon too. Hops also bring more of that mild pine earthy forest floor and very characteristic earthy like Kiwi style hope note. Fair overall bitterness, and a little sticky syrupy note, with mild sweet candy malts and toasty malt. Finish is drier but a little sticky, more sticky resinous hops with more pine and earthy forest floor notes, bit more citrus and mild tropical fruit hops, quite bitter too.

Mouth is med to a bit heavier bod, nice carb, decent fluffy feel.

Overall pretty nice, not what I expected. I somehow thought this would have herbs in it, like a Jade Tea, that was until I read the label and saw it was Pacific Jade hops, which makes a lot more sense, and that addition of nice Citra and Chinook which both def come through with the tropical fruits and earthy pine respectively. Decent balance, nice hops profile, pretty tasty, and even had nice carbonation and body feel to round it off. I def like this one.

Finally got to try this beer yesterday at the brewpub.Poured into a standard pint glass a deep orange infused golden with a great looking sticky white head.Citrus fruits all over the place in the nose with some underlying pine,a noticable caramel malt base is there but the citric hops dominate.A deep blast of citrus hops hits ya up front and they linger thru the duration,a little alcohol infused sweetness and caramel is there but again the hops steal the show. This is a great beer,it lived up to the hype.

Had on tap.

Pours a hazy medium orange with no head to speak of. A small amount of lacing but nothing impressive.

Very tropica citrus aroma with a hefty amount of bread as well. There is a nice floral aroma mixing in too. Very inviting and quite nice.

Lots of mango and grapefruit in the taste with more bread and biscuit. Huge deptht to the hops in this one with a very strong malt backbone for balance. Very high bitterness that leads to a dry finish that is pleasant on a beer of this strength as opposed to sweetness that is all to often present in these types of beers.

Overall, a very nice job by Foothills and a beer that I wish was more widely available.

Had a sample on tap as well, but am reviewing from the growler. Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale gold with two fingers of frothy, white head. Lots of bubles. The head subsided fairly quickly but left tons of lacing.

Smell: Wow. Lots of citrus/grapefruit, with undertones of pine. Reminds me a lot of HopSlam. Great smelling beer.

Taste: A lot like it smells. Grapefruit with a malt background, and a nice hop bite on the finish. The aftertaste lingers for quite some time. Very, very nice.

Mouthfeel: A little thin, and it feels slightly undercarbonated. I opened the growler less than 3 or so hours after leaving Foothills, so I don't think that's the reason.

Drinkability: This has become one of my favorite IPAs. Right now, it looks like this may be a one-time release - but hopefully they make this one more often. This is an outstanding IPA, and I would absolutely drink it again. Hopefully I'll be able to make it back before the batch runs out...

Tap at Duckworths. A bright orangy-gold pour. Maybe a finger of white head. Stuck to the glass pretty well.

Aroma, quite piney with some grapefruit.

Taste, some pale carmelly malt at first. Overridden by a ton of bitter citrus, herbal and piney hop notes. Finishes with lemon zest and grapefruit. A powerful hop resin bomb.

To the heavy side of light bodied. Ample carbonation, but the oils just coat the mouth. No problems drinking this one.
A must try for hopheads.

A wonderful beer- I really enjoyed this pour at the Brick Store Pub, in the appropriate glassware of course. A beautiful pour, slightly hazy with a thick, rocky head that sticks around for a while. Great aroma and taste of citrusy hops and a beautiful jasmine note. Quite bitter and fairly intense, tastes leafy and even a bit thick, with enough malt to support all the hops but not turn it too sweet. Long finish as well. I could drink this all day. Excellent!

Took a trip to Foothills today with some buddies and learned that they were offering this IPA. It could be experimental, but I hope they keep it around for awhile. I liked it so much that I picked up a couple growlers, and will be back to pick up more.

Poured into pint glass producing a half finger of egg white head with good retention. Very light amber color. Aroma is extremely floral with sweet bread and nice pineapple and grapefruit notes hinting to black pepper to finish it off.

Nice well-balanced hop bite with pleasant grapefruit and piney finish. Very impressed with this one. It's not hard on the pallet, but pleasant enough to make the drinkability exceptional. Mouthfeel is great as well. This one tastes much more pleasant than the Hoppyum in my opinion... but I think that they should keep both around given the recent popularity of IPA's. Well done Foothills, I hope you keep this one. I'm gonna go finish this growler now.

On a rare trip through Winston-Salem a week ago, my wife and I suddenly got thirsty and decided to stop for lunch and some beverages at Foothills. When we arrived, I inquired about the tap labeled "Jade IPA", which we were not familiar with. The bartender described it as a brewery only test batch IPA brewed with Citra, Cascade, and New Zealand Jade hops.

Orange under a thin head. Stinky fresh fruit, sweet pulpy juice aroma. Bitter, sticky, juicy, pulpy...citrus, pine sap, serious grapefruit, pineapple. Not much malt to be found here. Sticky, bitter, oily...dangerously delicious. Outstanding! Very happy to have stumbled upon this.

0n-tap at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is hazy yellowish amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Strong aromas of citrusy and tropical fruit hops are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is very hoppy and has strong flavors of citrus and tropical fruits along with a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very crisp on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very enjoyable IPA that delivers lots of interesting aromas and flavors from the hops. It's not overly bitter and no alcohol is present in the taste.

Thanks to n2185 for the bottle. Tasted 17 March 2014!

Pours a clear bright orange golden color. Two fingers of white head, great retention and outstanding lacing. Column of bubbles rising up the center. Stellar.

Smell is fantastic. Juicy peaches, pineapple, some sweet orange, and unidentifiable tropical fruits. It's like smelling some magical tropical fruit punch. Wow.

Taste is quite good, with those fruity juicy hops coming through nicely. It's a little chalky, but that fades quickly, leaving a smooth rounded medium-low bitterness that lasts.

Feel is really really good. Clean and crisp, but punch and vibrant, too. Just the right amount of persistence, allowing those soft bitter flavors to linger right until it's time for them to go.

This is a top-notch IPA. I love the hop aromas and their presence in the taste. And there are many other things to like about it, too.

Poured honey gold from a bomber with a two finger white head. The sweet smell contains tropical fruity hops and a piney undertone. Nice. The taste is similar to the smell with mango, pineapple and pine mingling nicely. A nice balanced carmally backbone adds ballast to the heady hops. It finishes with a resiney bite. The mouthfeel is sticky and nicely carbonated. This is a great IPA and by, the best thing I have had from Foothills.

Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, orange-gold coloring with a low profile, clingy, foamy, bright white head. Nose of tropical fruit forward, with orange and grapefruit upfront, and subtle pine notes. Flavors are tropical fruit forward, with grapefruit, melon, and tangerine, followed-by roasted notes and a subtle resin character. Extremely balanced, with a slight bitter tilt into a roasted, resinous aftertaste. Smooth, clean, slightly dry finish. Great beer.

Appearance: The honey colored liquid is capped by an inch of foam that leaves relatively few traces behind

Smell: Citrus pith in spades

Taste: Like the aroma, the beer is dominated by citrusy pith from start to finish with the malt playing a nice supportive backbone role; great attenuation keeps this one from becoming overly sweet

Mouthfeel: Medium body with crisp carbonation

Overall: A great IPA; let's hope with the additional capacity that this beer becomes part of the regular rotation

Pours a hazy golden star color with a one inch head.
Smells freakin fantastic. All citrusy hops and tropical fruit notes in the foreground and some sweet bready malt lurking deep, and I mean deep, in the background.
Taste follows the nose nicely. Big juicy, citrusy hops hit you first. Then a nice floral, earthy hops come through in the background. Some sweet malts hold things together nicely. Has a nice dry finish that keeps you coming back for another sip. This is probably the best IPA that has come out of NC. Great job Foothills I hope this one stays in the year round line up.

Holy crap, what a surprise!

I took a tour of the brewery the day I went and the brewmaster was really touting this one. Now I know why!

On tap at Foothills.

A: Poured a crystal clear, apricot-orange color with a few bubbles posing as a head floating around.

S: I got the Citra hops up front, with a sort of grapefruit-orange blend to boot. Despite the weak nose on many of their standard line-up entries, that definitely was NOT the case with this one.

T: I would describe this one as a much more complex, rice flake version of Bell's Two-Hearted, with a much more yeasty disposition overall. The finish was DEFINITELY rice.

M: This was carbonated enough, but still not too, with a slight bitterness on the finish than Foothill's other IPA efforts.

O: This was the best thing I've ever tried by Foothills... it even rivals Sexual Chocolate! However, I'll be back for BBA Sexual Chocolate this summer and we shall see...

A: Slight Orange tint to it. Nice head that dissipated quickly.

S: Fresh citrus mostly with a little pine.

T: Big citrus notes up front with a nice herbal character that lingered. A little sweetness from the malts was present.

M: Light to medium bodied. The taste lingered a while.

O: Enjoyed a pint at Foothills pub. I love this beer and love that they have made it available pretty much year round. It is a quite unique IPA with a little more herbal and slight mint flavor profile than I am used to. The Jade is my 2nd favorite IPA from Foothills... next to the Papa Jade!

A - Pours a straw yellow w a tint of gold minimally hazy with a nice finger of dense white head. Nice retention and lacing slowly slides down the glass.

S - Unusual big kick of Spicy herbal hops. Probably just insanely piney and dense citrus rinds. One of a kind aroma.

T - Tons of citrus rind and spicey pine, tropical fruit burst follows. Dry sliced hoppy rinds.

M - Lightish bodied, well carbed, very refreshing.

O - unique, the jade hops are a fantastic change of pace!

Had on tap at Foothills. Piney hops take a backseat to floral citrusy orange and grapefruit flavors. That being said this is not a one-dimensional hops only beer. Could (and did) enjoy several of these in a single session.

My new favorite IPA made in North Carolina. This one had great citrus aromas with a nice floral component as well. Flavors were full on grapefruit and blood orange with only a hint of malt. I cannot wait to see what Foothills does with this one as I think it is head and shoulders above the competition for great IPA's in North Carolina. Alcohol is completely hidden on this one, just crisp citrus notes and a refreshing hop bite on the finish.

Walked into Foothills Brewing yesterday to see if they had this gem on tap (get it)? Fortunately, they did, along with about 10 other beers.

Poured a hazy orange color that was pretty translucent to be honest. I didn't see too much sediment but I couldn't see through the other side of the glass. Not much of a head, but I guess they wanted me to get the most bang for my buck, which I appreciate.

The smell of this one was pretty damn good, kind of a Sculpin on crack. There were hints of orange, tangerine, pineapple and peach, along with other tropical fruits.

The taste was quite similar, even better if you can believe that. Tropical fruits dominate. The flavor did have a bit more grapefruit than the smell, though.

Mouthfeel was prickly carbonation and smooth overall.

After tasting both this and the Hoppyum IPA, I have a question to ask Foothills: why is this not being bottled?! This beer is one of the best single IPAs I've ever had and I've only seen it available in two locations, one being the brewery itself. If you can find this stuff, get a growler of it ASAP.
