Light gold coloration with just a hint of cloudiness. The head is bone white, impressive with two fingers height, retention that lasts through the entire drink leaving tight lines of foam down the glass. Ideal.

The Pacific Jade is very prominent with a very nice blend of spicy, grassy and floral overtones. Like a well hopped pilsner. Very clean. There are some red berry and tropical tones as well.

Under ripe citrus and cool melon highlight a hop profile that welcomes in more spicy and grassy flavors from the prominent NZ hop. Malt palate is clean and unassuming, red berry comes out from the yeast as the beer warms. Medium bitterness and a soapy finish.

Medium-light body, active carbonation and a very clean malt bill make for a terrific drink. I liked this one on the colder side as the malt sweetness and yeast esters begin to interfere with the harmony of the hops when warmer.

This is one impressive beer that highlights a hop that I didn't know could star in an IPA. Super clean and a delicate yet punchy hop profile, very imperial pilsner-like with a focus front and center on the hops.

Enjoying this from a bomber.

looks quite golden this year, last year was a bit more clear light copper. Poured a nice finger length head with comperable lace. Certainly has a distinct smell but nothing that overpowers my nose. I'm getting citrus for sure and some sweet florals.

This beer is incredibly smooth. First sip reminded me why i loved this so much last year on draft. An attempt at balancing with the malt but glad it isn't because the hops are so delicious.

Very smooth and crisp. Zero alcohol taste...Dangerous because i could drink many of these beverages.

What a great beer this is. Easy A.

Started off well with an attractive bright yellow, clear appearance with plenty of bubbles and off-white head. Nose was floral, but a tad weak. Beyond that, this was nothing to speak of, for me. That's not to say that it wasn't a well-crafted brew; in fact it reminded me a lot of HF's Abner and What is Enlightenment? They're just not my cup of tea. The date stamp was illegible, so perhaps it was an old bottle?

This is an awesome ipa ,i would say an extra ipa , i can get it really fresh here in n. c. Totally smooth , just a different ipa that is tropical in taste and refined in mouthfeel .. If you see it do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle .. I adore this beer!

Pours crystal clear Amber with a white foamy head.

Smell is pine, citrus,pepper.

The taste is citrus, a little bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carb.

I'm not sure how old this bottle was but it failed to live up to its rating. I might buy it again to see but I couldn't see a date on the bottle.

Pours a medium clear gold with moderately thick white head. The head has light retention and leave small sticky lacing. The aroma is light with tropical fruit and pine notes. The taste is about the same. The body is lighter but not watery and easy drinking.

Jade pours a bronze color with a nice big head. There is a mild hoppy aroma. There is a nice sweet crisp malt backbone, with good floral hop flavors. Not over powering and easy to drink. Overall its a very nice drinkable and flavorful IPA.

22oz Bomber

Big huge thanks to Wil for sending me one of my favorites from NC! Jade is a beauty of a beer. 24kt gold in color, it glimmers, while a few streams of carbonation swirl to the surface. The dirty white head is silky on the pour but becomes craggy and rocky as it settles. The foam has an eggshell sheen and leaves chunky lacing clung to the glass.

The nose on this beer is so unique. It's all sorts of jammy upfront, both orange and grapefruit. That's always inviting but the uniqueness comes in the form of a very floral, almost perfume driven, hoppiness that joins the jam. There are even exotic tea like qualities present. This unique hoppiness is draped over a bready and softly sweet caramel backbone. Inviting, to say the least.

As floral as the nose is, the flavor profile is as resinous. It's resinous upfront before being joined by the jamminess mentioned above. The citrus brightens from jam to pith as it moves through and those floral qualities open up on the backend. The hop profile is both expressive and deep. Again, that is all draped over a sturdy, bready malt backbone with a kiss of caramel sweetness. Soft, clean alcohol adds a peppery bite.

The feel of this IPA is that of wrapping yourself in velvet. The body is plush and luxurious but never heavy or cloying, as a matter of fact it dries up very well on the swallow. Bitterness never extends beyond moderate and lingers until the next drink. Drinkability is off the charts like most of Foothills offerings. Thumbs up.

Jade is a great IPA from the folks at Foothills. It's unique in nearly every aspect but the nose really sets it apart from other IPAs. Great balance, depth, dryness, and lingering bitterness make this a winner in my book. Thanks again, Wil!

Poured from a bomber into a La Fin Du Monde Tulip glass, courtesy of a trade with @humuloner22
A - 1 1/2 finger fluffy head on top of a beautiful golden ale. Decent lacing.
S - Fruit and citrus with some grassiness and pine in the background
T -Nice malt backbone with tropical fruits, lemon, grass, some pine. Some Lemon rind on the finish
M -A light feel with moderate carbonation. This beer has several levels of flavors which transition dry finish.
O: This is a wonderful light bodied IPA. The beauty in this beer is it subtlety, there is a great hop profile but it is not over done. Easy drinker but there is no reason to hurry with it.

Poured from a 22oz bomber about 45 degrees. Huge voluminous amounts of head from a normal balanced pour. Full 4 fingers that lingered. EXCELLENT lacing throughout so no idea what others wrote about. Color is the most golden and perfect IPA hue. Aromas of citrus (orange and lemon mostly - maybe apples?). Definitely smell the hops but it isn't overpowering. Hits the tongue really light and frothy. Extremely crisp. Bubbles of carbonation float up constantly. Well balanced taste of hops, lemon and apples. Some pine but very subtle. Thicker than a normal IPA. Medium body. Dry. Clean. Clear and crisp. Slight hops and pine for aftertaste. Just incredibly smooth and good. Would swear I was drinking a premium IPA from California. Unbelievably good. Incredible bang for the buck as well. Will purchase more. Had another one that was not "fresh" and it was pretty bad. Make SURE you purchase it fresh.

A--Translucent gold/amber, fluffy head, not much lacing.

S--Tropical citrus, star fruit, granny smith apples.

T--Follows nose, with terrific, balanced finish of sour apples and lemon.

F--Medium dry, refreshing.

O--Without question one of the best IPAs produced south of the mason dixon line. Fabulous.

Poured from a 22oz bomber. Citrus smell and taste with peach as the most prominent note. Just the right balance with a smooth, moderately bitter finish. This ranks right up there with freak of nature as nc's best IPAs.

Not sure why this one doesn't get more love-likely limited bottling and distro but a shame.

Solid one finger head on an orange base with moderate carbonation

Taste and aroma are tropical fruit with just a hints of pine.

Slightly dry as I love my IPA to be.

Super solid IPA--only occasional bomber sightings which is too bad as mainly have to find it on tap. Last time in bottles was gone immediately.

Recommended highly.

Served on-tap in a Shaker pint glass at Boylan Heights (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Clear honey-gold with short cap of off-white, small bubbled head with decent retention and a couple of short curtains of lacing.

S: Tropical fruit and minty, herbal hops dominate with a light caramel backing. No yeast or alcohol presence.

T: A very smooth yet complex hops flavor with mellow tropical fruit, grapefruit/lemon citrus, and pine up-front and finished with a nice earthy, resiny, herbal note, very minty in the finish. No yeast or alcohol character. A very smooth and delicious American IPA.

M: This beer is light-medium in body with lowish carbonation and a coating feel, but finishes dry. Very drinkable -- dangerously so.

O: Foothills Jade is a wonderful and unique, complex IPA with a great feel and a wide array of hop notes that blends tropical, citrus, resiny, and earthy characteristics wonderfully.

A- pours a slightly pale golden hue, thin lacing and had maybe a quarter inch head which subsided after a few minutes.

S- a light and sweet ell, this beer reminds me if sugar and grapefruit combined. It's a pretty complex smell, honestly.

T- this has a complex tropical taste with a malty hint at the front and a great bitter hop end. Grapefruit is present the whole way through. It has a dank and hoppy flavor to it. It definitely has floral and grassy notes in there as well. Malty and hoppy finish.

M- medium bodied with just the right amount of carbonation to it. It leaves just the right amount of bitterness to it at the end.

Overall- this beer is AMAZING. plain and simple. Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had. It has a great taste, smell, and aftertaste. Carbonation and the body is on point. This has everything I want in an IPA and MORE.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with copper highlights and a frothy cream head that dissipates into a thin layer of foam and leaves sheets of lacing.

Grapefruit and resin dominate the aroma, with tropical notes adding complexity.

Flavor reveals a lightly toasted malt base that accompanies the grapefruit underpinnings nicely. Notes of lemon and mango add complexity. The finish is moderately bitter. Malt actually plays a factor in this, which I enjoy.

Body is a touch on the light side, if anything, though that may be accentuated by the high carbonation. Alcohol warmth is noted.

I like the malt presence in this one, and the flavor and bittering hops are almost at an even keel.

Thanks to LGB362 for dropping a load on my steps yesterday, this anticipated brew among them. 22 oz. bottle, nice artwork, no evident bottle date, split with my wife.

The pour is dark yellow with plenty of carbonation, pretty opaque. Nose is subtle or, if we're being uncharitable, surprisingly weak: mango, spare tropical breeze, & what might be pale malts.

Jade is like the rum punch of IPAs. Tropical islands really comes out in the taste, but it's nearly outshone by an almost rye-like spiciness that comes on just as hot. Mild dankness & a citrus touch that nearly tips into something a cat might expel onto the carpet; heard it described so often & never really experienced it until now. Finish is a honeybee sweetness with a moderate bitterness that swells as the beer warms until it really sticks to the lingual frenum. Very sticky in the mouth & now that I think about it, there is pine in here, too. Super easy to drink.

It is what it is: a very good beer that is wickedly easy to slug.

Bottle share at Proof. Pale straw in color, white head that faded to medium collar. Aroma is a light malt bill, some grassy hops. Taste is bitter, grassy, some floral hops. Odd taste. Not very enjoyable. Light to medium body and low to med carbonation.

Thanks to n2185 for the bottle. Tasted 17 March 2014!

Pours a clear bright orange golden color. Two fingers of white head, great retention and outstanding lacing. Column of bubbles rising up the center. Stellar.

Smell is fantastic. Juicy peaches, pineapple, some sweet orange, and unidentifiable tropical fruits. It's like smelling some magical tropical fruit punch. Wow.

Taste is quite good, with those fruity juicy hops coming through nicely. It's a little chalky, but that fades quickly, leaving a smooth rounded medium-low bitterness that lasts.

Feel is really really good. Clean and crisp, but punch and vibrant, too. Just the right amount of persistence, allowing those soft bitter flavors to linger right until it's time for them to go.

This is a top-notch IPA. I love the hop aromas and their presence in the taste. And there are many other things to like about it, too.

22 oz purchased in Wilmington, NC at request of the cashier

A: Light yellow, slight orange hints. Vigorous carbonation. Head lasts the entire time at a small albeit nice height.

S: This is a fresh bottle and the hops really show. Big mango, citrus and various tropical aromas hit followed by a bit of earthy, piney notes. There is something that I cannot put my finger on. At first it made the smell seem a bit off, but actually started to enjoy. Onions? Very little malt shows on the nose.

T: Best part of the beer IMO. Mango, citrus, pine, pineapple. Big up front hops. Followed by biscuity, cracker malts.

M: Medium-bodied, long-lasting but not overly intense bitterness. Insanely drinkable. Went through the 22oz within 15 minutes.

O: Very good IPA. For the ABV, it is almost TOO easy to drink.

Wish I could get it up here in NY. On my trip back to NC, I had two foothills beers: Hoppyum, and this, Jade IPA. Should have picked up a bottle of their DIPA. I recommend picking up a bottle of this if you see it in a store in the Southeast.

Hard to read the date, I think it's 1/2x/2014.

A: Pours a clear amber. Enormously tall and frothy light tan head. Head fades out slowly with a big island of foam. Light, soapy chunks of lacing.

S: Surprisingly subtle aroma. Some dry crackery malt and resinous pine. Hints of some tropical fruit maybe?

T: Big hop flavors up front. Kind of a light tropical fruit and a heavy spicy pine note to go with it. Even stronger spicy pine into the finish and lingering in the aftertaste forever. Dry cracker malt in the finish as well, lending to an overall dry and bitter back half to this beer.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and dry.

O: A very crisp and dry IPA. At some points it's almost sucking the moisture out of your mouth. Easy drinking with a really long lasting and dry aftertaste. Refreshing, not too bitter either, giving this one strong drinkability points.
