Poured from a 22oz bomber. Citrus smell and taste with peach as the most prominent note. Just the right balance with a smooth, moderately bitter finish. This ranks right up there with freak of nature as nc's best IPAs.

Not sure why this one doesn't get more love-likely limited bottling and distro but a shame.

Solid one finger head on an orange base with moderate carbonation

Taste and aroma are tropical fruit with just a hints of pine.

Slightly dry as I love my IPA to be.

Super solid IPA--only occasional bomber sightings which is too bad as mainly have to find it on tap. Last time in bottles was gone immediately.

Recommended highly.

A - 1 inch head on gold brew with some haziness, terrific lacing.

S - Grassy smells with hints of light fruits

T - rich malts supported with citrus flavors, lemon zest, accompanying spice, peppery flavor. Bitter and sweet with a west coast feel. Very easy drinking

M - nice carbonation, very smooth.

Nice straightforward IPA with a summer feel. Goes down easily and makes you wanting more.

Served on-tap in a Shaker pint glass at Boylan Heights (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Clear honey-gold with short cap of off-white, small bubbled head with decent retention and a couple of short curtains of lacing.

S: Tropical fruit and minty, herbal hops dominate with a light caramel backing. No yeast or alcohol presence.

T: A very smooth yet complex hops flavor with mellow tropical fruit, grapefruit/lemon citrus, and pine up-front and finished with a nice earthy, resiny, herbal note, very minty in the finish. No yeast or alcohol character. A very smooth and delicious American IPA.

M: This beer is light-medium in body with lowish carbonation and a coating feel, but finishes dry. Very drinkable -- dangerously so.

O: Foothills Jade is a wonderful and unique, complex IPA with a great feel and a wide array of hop notes that blends tropical, citrus, resiny, and earthy characteristics wonderfully.

A- pours a slightly pale golden hue, thin lacing and had maybe a quarter inch head which subsided after a few minutes.

S- a light and sweet ell, this beer reminds me if sugar and grapefruit combined. It's a pretty complex smell, honestly.

T- this has a complex tropical taste with a malty hint at the front and a great bitter hop end. Grapefruit is present the whole way through. It has a dank and hoppy flavor to it. It definitely has floral and grassy notes in there as well. Malty and hoppy finish.

M- medium bodied with just the right amount of carbonation to it. It leaves just the right amount of bitterness to it at the end.

Overall- this beer is AMAZING. plain and simple. Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had. It has a great taste, smell, and aftertaste. Carbonation and the body is on point. This has everything I want in an IPA and MORE.

Pours a slightly hazy golden with copper highlights and a frothy cream head that dissipates into a thin layer of foam and leaves sheets of lacing.

Grapefruit and resin dominate the aroma, with tropical notes adding complexity.

Flavor reveals a lightly toasted malt base that accompanies the grapefruit underpinnings nicely. Notes of lemon and mango add complexity. The finish is moderately bitter. Malt actually plays a factor in this, which I enjoy.

Body is a touch on the light side, if anything, though that may be accentuated by the high carbonation. Alcohol warmth is noted.

I like the malt presence in this one, and the flavor and bittering hops are almost at an even keel.

Thanks to LGB362 for dropping a load on my steps yesterday, this anticipated brew among them. 22 oz. bottle, nice artwork, no evident bottle date, split with my wife.

The pour is dark yellow with plenty of carbonation, pretty opaque. Nose is subtle or, if we're being uncharitable, surprisingly weak: mango, spare tropical breeze, & what might be pale malts.

Jade is like the rum punch of IPAs. Tropical islands really comes out in the taste, but it's nearly outshone by an almost rye-like spiciness that comes on just as hot. Mild dankness & a citrus touch that nearly tips into something a cat might expel onto the carpet; heard it described so often & never really experienced it until now. Finish is a honeybee sweetness with a moderate bitterness that swells as the beer warms until it really sticks to the lingual frenum. Very sticky in the mouth & now that I think about it, there is pine in here, too. Super easy to drink.

It is what it is: a very good beer that is wickedly easy to slug.

Bottle share at Proof. Pale straw in color, white head that faded to medium collar. Aroma is a light malt bill, some grassy hops. Taste is bitter, grassy, some floral hops. Odd taste. Not very enjoyable. Light to medium body and low to med carbonation.

Thanks to n2185 for the bottle. Tasted 17 March 2014!

Pours a clear bright orange golden color. Two fingers of white head, great retention and outstanding lacing. Column of bubbles rising up the center. Stellar.

Smell is fantastic. Juicy peaches, pineapple, some sweet orange, and unidentifiable tropical fruits. It's like smelling some magical tropical fruit punch. Wow.

Taste is quite good, with those fruity juicy hops coming through nicely. It's a little chalky, but that fades quickly, leaving a smooth rounded medium-low bitterness that lasts.

Feel is really really good. Clean and crisp, but punch and vibrant, too. Just the right amount of persistence, allowing those soft bitter flavors to linger right until it's time for them to go.

This is a top-notch IPA. I love the hop aromas and their presence in the taste. And there are many other things to like about it, too.

22 oz purchased in Wilmington, NC at request of the cashier

A: Light yellow, slight orange hints. Vigorous carbonation. Head lasts the entire time at a small albeit nice height.

S: This is a fresh bottle and the hops really show. Big mango, citrus and various tropical aromas hit followed by a bit of earthy, piney notes. There is something that I cannot put my finger on. At first it made the smell seem a bit off, but actually started to enjoy. Onions? Very little malt shows on the nose.

T: Best part of the beer IMO. Mango, citrus, pine, pineapple. Big up front hops. Followed by biscuity, cracker malts.

M: Medium-bodied, long-lasting but not overly intense bitterness. Insanely drinkable. Went through the 22oz within 15 minutes.

O: Very good IPA. For the ABV, it is almost TOO easy to drink.

Wish I could get it up here in NY. On my trip back to NC, I had two foothills beers: Hoppyum, and this, Jade IPA. Should have picked up a bottle of their DIPA. I recommend picking up a bottle of this if you see it in a store in the Southeast.

Hard to read the date, I think it's 1/2x/2014.

A: Pours a clear amber. Enormously tall and frothy light tan head. Head fades out slowly with a big island of foam. Light, soapy chunks of lacing.

S: Surprisingly subtle aroma. Some dry crackery malt and resinous pine. Hints of some tropical fruit maybe?

T: Big hop flavors up front. Kind of a light tropical fruit and a heavy spicy pine note to go with it. Even stronger spicy pine into the finish and lingering in the aftertaste forever. Dry cracker malt in the finish as well, lending to an overall dry and bitter back half to this beer.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and dry.

O: A very crisp and dry IPA. At some points it's almost sucking the moisture out of your mouth. Easy drinking with a really long lasting and dry aftertaste. Refreshing, not too bitter either, giving this one strong drinkability points.

Thanks Kegatron for the share. 22oz bomber poured into a snifter. The brew appears a clear golden color with a white froth atop. Solid retention and patchy lace on the glassware as the cap fades.

The aroma opens up with a hint of stinky cheese then blends to herbs and a very dank and catty quality. It smells pretty strange at first then opens up and gets really enjoyable.

The taste is fruity and tropical with hops upfront blended to the bitterness of fruity rinds and citrus zest, pith and pulp. Towards the back it gets a light catty aspect. Very herbacious and enjoyable in nearly every spectrum of hop flavors.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Absolutely crushable as far as drinkability goes. This is a fantastic and easy drinking IPA that I would love to have again. So strange how the nose is so misleading and seemingly doesnt impart any of that cheesy and sulfuric character.

Bottle pour, cloudy light amber color, with one finger plus of foamy white head that sank to a thin, rocky layer and held there, lacing the glass nicely. Nice hoppy aroma, citrus and cat pee, little to no maltiness. Crisp citrusy hops in the taste, sweet biscuity malts, notes of underripe pineapple and ammonia. Moderate but assertive bitterness. Light-medium body, crisp and clean, easily drinkable. Nice! Possibly the best I've had from Foothills.

This beer should be interesting. Thanks to Beerness for this one. Dated 01/29/2014 so fairly fresh.

Pours a decent fluffy creamy 1.5 finger head that fades fairly slowly, nice lacing when it does, mostly clear slight sediment honey orange color.

Nose nice citrus tropical hops, clementine, melon, mango, hint of musty resinous passion fruit, all mixed together nicely, nice citrus with mild tropical fruit all around. It also brings a mild earthy very slight piney like hops aroma, almost forest floor but barely, and just a touch of malt underneath.

Taste is nice as well, more of the same hops, mix of citrus and tropical fruit mostly. Some nice tropical fruit to start, a little guava interestingly, hint papaya and touch mango, all are light, with a bit more musty dank resinous notes and some passion fruit with that. Then comes a mild clementine like citrus almost orange, with a little melon too. Hops also bring more of that mild pine earthy forest floor and very characteristic earthy like Kiwi style hope note. Fair overall bitterness, and a little sticky syrupy note, with mild sweet candy malts and toasty malt. Finish is drier but a little sticky, more sticky resinous hops with more pine and earthy forest floor notes, bit more citrus and mild tropical fruit hops, quite bitter too.

Mouth is med to a bit heavier bod, nice carb, decent fluffy feel.

Overall pretty nice, not what I expected. I somehow thought this would have herbs in it, like a Jade Tea, that was until I read the label and saw it was Pacific Jade hops, which makes a lot more sense, and that addition of nice Citra and Chinook which both def come through with the tropical fruits and earthy pine respectively. Decent balance, nice hops profile, pretty tasty, and even had nice carbonation and body feel to round it off. I def like this one.

Somewhat hazy light golden hued with a quarter inch thick head of white frothy foam. Brussels lacing. Gentle pine like hop aroma. There's definitely a prevalent pine like hop flavor. This is a great everyday IPA. Mouth is sticky and the bitterness prickles the tongue. Front of the palate is a gentle pine hop burn followed by a nice light malt backbone and a gentle hop burn on the fade.

Pours a bright gold with a nice one finger head. I didn't plan on reviewing this until I smelled it. This ipa means business. It's such a juicy aroma. Pineapple, mango, orange, some kind of weird exotic fruit I probably have never had, you name it. So tropical. Rivals any dipa I've had. Taste is fairly tropical, as well. Very fresh and crisp. Nice hoppy tingly aftertaste. The taste is a small letdown from the smell, but still really good. More pine in with taste. Bitter grapefruit rind and orange. It's not overly bitter or sweet. Nice balance but does a great job of showcasing the hops. Easy to drink, medium body and carbonation. Really a delightful beer. This wasn't on my radar unil my NC trader suggested it. I hope you all have a beer guardian angel looking out for you and sending you these hidden gems.

Poured honey gold from a bomber with a two finger white head. The sweet smell contains tropical fruity hops and a piney undertone. Nice. The taste is similar to the smell with mango, pineapple and pine mingling nicely. A nice balanced carmally backbone adds ballast to the heady hops. It finishes with a resiney bite. The mouthfeel is sticky and nicely carbonated. This is a great IPA and by, the best thing I have had from Foothills.

This is one of my favorite IPA's. Although I would give it higher remarks had I had this one on draft. But I am also so excited they have finally released this one in bottles. It is so amazing. When you pry off that lid it hits you with tropical aromatics, pineapple, mango, and probably other fruits that I haven't been privy too. It has a strong citrus aroma, that is without a doubt. But where a lot of IPA's and pale ales have a grapefruit smell and taste this one is very tropical and mysterious. The color, is a hazy golden straw not too much carbonation but just enough.

The taste hits your front palate with the strong tropical flavors, but once it crosses the back it gets real. You have that hoppy resinous burst in the there and its got that bitterness one should embrace with an IPA, at least, you know, I do. This beer reminds me of the essence of some tropical lime mixed with a plethora of other flavors. Its a damn near perfect IPA really, but I haven't met that devil just yet, although this one is really close.

Pours a clear golden with just a touch of amber. Massive full head with excellent lacing that lasts. Very nice nose of citrus hops - grapefruit, orange and tropical notes of pineapple coupled with mango - over a slightly sweet caramel note. In the background, a hint of pine is also detected. Light medium body with an almost smooth texture. Slightly above normal carbonation level. The exceptional flavor profile is well balanced with hop flavor, light bitterness and sweetness. It begins with the citrus and tropical hop flavor profile of the nose, progresses to light bitterness with a peppery note and ends with a nice caramel sweetness. The finish effervesces into a mix of the full flavor profile leaving a slight citric tartness over a peppery bitterness. Exceptional seems a bit of an understatement for this world class ale.

Tangerine orange in color, clean & clear, with a bright white head. Head is large and foamy. Nice bits of stringy and spotty lace shift around.

This beer is different every time I have it. Sometimes it's darker and greener in its hoppiness and other times it hits more as tropical and fruity. This bottle seems to be leaning in the direction of fruity-tropical. Bright citrus, melon, lifesavers pineapple flavor, and passionfruity. Happy and refreshing hop aromas over clean caramel and crackery/grainy malt. Flavors are lightly sweet and briskly bitter, melon, citrus, other miscellaneous fruit, dusting of pine, hint of citrus rind and bitter grapefruit. All around enjoyable. The dark side of this is coming out more as it warms. Seemingly simple with a pleasant mix of flavors.

Pours a golden red body with two finger head and a lace ring around the glass that goes down the glass entire duration of beer. The aroma is a mix of minor citric hoppiness and good sweetness. The taste is more of the same as I get both a bitter, earty, citric hoppiness and this lovely light tropical fruit sweetness as well as minor malt sweetness (caramel). The balance between this beer is great and it rotates between bitter hoppiness and minor sweetness and it goes down almost watery, it is so smooth, with a hidden ABV and never any hop overload.

Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, orange-gold coloring with a low profile, clingy, foamy, bright white head. Nose of tropical fruit forward, with orange and grapefruit upfront, and subtle pine notes. Flavors are tropical fruit forward, with grapefruit, melon, and tangerine, followed-by roasted notes and a subtle resin character. Extremely balanced, with a slight bitter tilt into a roasted, resinous aftertaste. Smooth, clean, slightly dry finish. Great beer.
