On tap at Barley's in Greenville. Cool! This is "white oak aged".

A. Same as the normal Gruffmeister, but what did ya expect? Clear rich gold. Some lace, a short white head. No active bubbles.

S. Very similar to the normal Gruff, but seems drier and with maybe just a hint of oak. It's quite subtle.

T. Super clean (no surprise coming from Foothills), lightly grainy-sweet, the oak shows up and adds dimension to an otherwise solid, if unassuming, beer. Solid malt backbone here, gentle crispness. Hard to place the 8%. Good flavor and nothing out of the ordinary. It's not too sweet, which is good, and is a nice solid orange German style brew.

M / O. Adequate carbonation, medium-full body, drinks easily. Solid, working-class beer here, improved with the addition of oak and probably some recipe tweaks since I've had this last a few years back. Good stuff, I like the oak version better than the regular.

Oak aged using white oak spirals! Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured yellow-orange with a one finger pure white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, banana, subtle woodiness, and subtle alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, banana, subtle alcohol, and wood on the followthrough. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. It was very smooth drinking for an 8% brew. I had the pleasure of trying the regular version later in the night and this one was really toned down in the robustness of the brew. The wood aspect on this one was very subtle on the end but definitely present. Really glad I got to give this one a try. Tick.

Growler poured into a tall mug. See-thru gold with a few lazy streams of carbonation feeding the smallish white head. Minimal lacing.

Plentiful oak in the nose, but it doesn't overpower the honeyish sweet malt and floral hopping. Imminent alcohol presence is advertised. Oak flavor really flexing its muscle here- sweet, buttery, a bit tangy. It's perhaps a bit much; mental note to try the regular Gruffmeister for comparison at some point. Sweet and floral with a small earthy bite. Booziness is appropriate for the style, but pretty potent when paired up with the oaky sweetness. Not sure I'd revisit this again, but I'm inclined to give the regular version a try.
