On tap at the Mellow in Greensboro.Poured a deep burnt orange with a thinner but well defined white head atop.A nice mix of vanilla tinged wood and resiny hops, the barrel does not overpower the aromas like alot of barrel aged beers do,the hops play a role.Mellow and smooth in the mouth,it goes down very easily.Flavors of vanilla and sweetish caramel intertwind well with a good shot of resiny hops, again the aging doesnt overpower the beer.A very good beer to begin with, the aging makes it great in my opinion.

on-tap at busy bee in raleigh
Served in a trophy tulip - amber orange body and a sticky white web. Foothills will put just about anything in a barrel it seems. I do happen to think that barrel aged IPA's have a tendency to turn out pretty interesting and this was no exception - a heavy oak bite neutralizes the normally rather hoppy base beer. Vanilla, citrus, faint booze and a very creamy finish.

I've seen this here on BA, but have never seen it offered in the brewpub...until today! Yay for me. I'm always down for experimental BA beers, odd as they are.
Looks like your typical IPA, hazy orange with a small white head on top. The aroma is surprisingly shallow for a BA beer. Light vanilla, some mild bourbon. I like that it is tamed down though as I still get a nice zesty citrus aroma mixed in.
The bourbon doesn't overpower the flavor either, which is really nice. I'd think this is an odd marriage of flavors but it works. Still plenty of hoppy goodness to go around, but there's just a kiss of bourbon on the finish, which is both warming and tasty. A nice sweet IPA that I'd have again no doubt. Keep this one around a bit more!

On tap at Common Market, Southend, Charlotte.
I like Hoppyum and I like bourbon aged beers, but this one had an odd flavor that I wasn't all that fond of. By no means was it bad, but for a bourbon aged beer, there was something lacking. Maybe its the combination of an IPA with bourbon that I wasn't a big fan of. I prefer stouts when it comes to bourbon aged stuff
It was cool to try, but I found myself with a 1/4 glass left and wasn't excited anymore.

On tap at duckworth's charlotte. 12 ounce pour into a pilsner like glass. Amber in color. Nice head retention. Sticky lacing. Aroma is a bit muted it seems, still some citrus and some malt/barrel sweetness but i have no basis for comparison. Where it lacks in aroma it makes up for in taste. Flavors go together well, picking up bourbon on the back end. Easy to drink, bitter yet balanced. Not over the top but about what i would expect from a great barrel aged ipa. Interesting and very tasty.

On-tap at Foothills
A: Burnt orange with a very thin white head.
S: Bourbon with a nice citrus hop aroma coming through on the back end.
T: Nice bourbon flavors of vanilla and oakiness complement the nice citrus hops. A nice slight malt backbone to this melds all the components nicely. A nice bourbon and bitterness on the backend.
M: Very well balanced. Medium bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
O: Very enjoyable. I think I might even prefer this BA IPA over Founders Doom just slightly. Hope they keep this one on tap more often.
