A - brown with red edges; thin, soft, off white, brownish head
S - caramel, piny hops, faint coffee
T - nutty, caramel, piny hops, some roasted malts
M - medium bodied, well carbonated
This is a solid brown ale. It's very traditional but with a bolder than expected hop character. It's not very robust, but it is refreshing and easily drinkable. A nice offering from Foothills.

It has a fairly plain metallic malt taste. Carbonated and refreshing, kind of light. There's a bit of a grape fruitiness to it. It just tastes fairly plain. It's not bad at all, but it doesn't carry much flavor.
It has a nice brown color, basically completely see-through. It's very bubbly throughout. It has a foamy white head, tannish, with some lacing. Not much of a scent to it. Kind of metallic.

Served on-tap at Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem, NC.
A: Pours a clear though almost opaque deep reddish brown in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and significant garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall beige head that slowly reduce to a couple of smal thin patches with a very thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of light fruit malty sweetness with apple and pear standing out along with some earthy hops and just a touch of nuts.
T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of toasted malts with some light fruit sweetness, specifically red delicious apple stands out. Following the malts there are some light hints of nuts and brown sugar. Finally, there is a moderate amount of earthy hops in the finish that lend a light lingering bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin but nothing like it was before the Foothills reformulation.
O: Enjoyable but not anything I would go out of my way to find - relatively easy to drink and close to being sessionable. Much better than the previous incarnation, I'm glad the recipe was tweaked as it improved the beer significantly.

12 ounce bottle -> snifter
A - mahogany brown (not opaque) with a one finger khaki head, decent retention and decent lacing.
S - the nose is mostly bread and some pine.
T - Roasted nuts, coffee, caramel, cola, and molasses
M - a little thin with a coffee aftertaste
O - as brown ales go this one is pretty good, a bit more robust than most.
