Arrived at Foothills at 4:30AM for the second time in two years. Last year I got bottle #69 and was hoping for it again. ( got 15 16 17 and 18 this time.) The line was cold, but the beers kept us warm...
** 2012 edit no more tasting in line

...until the staff brought out sausage biscuits and hot choc. Very awesome!
**2012 edit sounds like now they are going to amend the rules catering to those who want to show up late and biscuits are now $2 ea.***

The inside looks very nice and the seating was not crowded at all. The only thing that took away from the experience was the crazy Jamaican music that was playing over the loudspeaker above our heads in line. ( that was changed though :) ) No offense to those that enjoy it, but wow!! Never heard anything like it before.
**edit no longer able to get a seat and eat if you enter first. We were told we had to exit the building until after the bottle sale.

Like I said the staff was awesome, offering warm drinks, cleaning up the pink vomit no im not kidding that someone left on the sidewalk ( HAHA wasnt me!!) , they came to ask how the food was etc. and never let the drinks go dry. Jamie was going around signing bottles.
**2012 Edit The staff sold us beer we wanted to enjoy then and only then told us we had to drink it fast ( or waste it ) because it was not allowed in the back.

I had a Ruben and fries ( amazing!!! ) and the homemade ketchup and mustard was awesome too. Sampled the SC and it was very very good. I am glad I got my bottles.

Im going to be back next year for sure. I hope it is warmer.
**2012 edit no longer going back. plenty of better releases now.

MIssed a release due to the BS above and was told that the ways were ammended yet again.
Seems there is an ok compromise. drinking is legal until an arbitrary time, then it is not. The doors open earlier for more drinking which was cool. If things continue like this, Ill make the drive again.

Nice establishment. Service was great, the bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable. Offered samples. Also happened to have BA Sexual Chocolate on tap. The Turkey sandwich with Brie and Granny Smith apples was amazing. Will definitely recommend to anybody visiting the area.

I love Foothills! They have an awesome staff, hold great events/releases, provide a place for those looking to do bottle shares, and make great beer. I always look forward to visiting during SC/BASC releases.

Foothills is centrally located in downtown Winston. A large space from the outside grows even larger as you enter. It seems a little cookie cutter at first, looking like a lot of the new brewpubs opened in the early 2000s but as you look around that idea changes. The front room is cavernous with high ceilings, sparsely laid tables, and an upstairs seating area. Walking past this to the second area is the bar and bar seating. A longish bar off to the left seats, probably, 20, with a couple tap towers and a chalkboard at the end. A handful of hightops are spread throughout the much smaller, cozier room.

The bartender on my visit, a quiet night mind you, was super enthusiastic about beer. She got super excited when she noticed my buddy had on a Three Floyds shirt. She was quick to help, lend a comment, and pulled zero punches, just the way I like a bartender. Cool chick. The taplist was loaded with everything from Kolsch to IPAs of the month to Schwarz and even a couple barrel aged offerings. Every single beer I tried was delectable and I tried a good amount. Jasmine IPA and Bourbon People's Porter were standouts. Oh, the Schwarz was terrific as well.

I expected decent beer when I first walked in but not much else. What I got was great beer, a fun bartender, and a cool space. To top it all off the prices were insanely reasonable. I would go out of my way for a return trip to Foothills and probably will in the future.

Always great beer and the food is mediocre. Although the food has gotten better over the years. Always a big tap list including Jade and a great mix of seasonals. The events/beer releases are always memorable here and very well done. Hats off to the staff for perfecting it and always looking out for the customer. Cheers to Foothills!
