Served in a pint glass from tap. Had this at the Brewery, which was a very nice place. Review from notes.

3.5 A: Clear orange amber color, though the lighting was low so I could be off a bit. No head. The pour was a bad one and the beer was filled almost all the way up to the top of the glass so I can't tell you much more.

3.0 S: Other than a touch of crystal malt, there isn't anything going on. Rather disappointing.

4.5 T: Delicious and complex. Light fruits with a healthy bitterness that balances well. Malts are grainy, but not overly so. Herbal hop flavor. Everything meshes so well to make a great tasting brew.

4.0 M: Medium body. Smooth and creamy with good carbonation.

4.5 D: Excellent brew. This beer made the trip up to Flagstaff from Sedona worth while.

Sent to me from a good buddy that lives in Flagstaff. 22oz bomber with a label that denotes this to be a "Lumber Yard Sawtooth Series Imperial Red". At 5.4% this doesn't sound really like an imperial anything...

Pours a gorgeous amber ruby with active carbonation. The body and the color almost remind me of a sparkling cranberry cocktail of sorts. A 1/2 inch head dies down immediately to a lacing of large white bubbles.

The aroma is immediately of citrus hops and smells more like a damn decent IPA than any red that I've ever had. Caramel and biscuit smells are there but this nose is surprisingly simple and hop forward. First hit on the tongue shocked me with how low the carbonation feels. Light body resonates sweet malts and citrus hops. Acetaldehyde is present and astringency grows more prevalent with each subsequent sip. Bitterness is way too high for an American Red / Amber. Lingering bitter and astringency make this hard to drink even.

I hate to say it but, in my opinion, this beer is a failure of a Red... Heck, it's kind of a failure as a commercial beer. I'm going to end up drain-pouring this. Definitely reminds me more of a starter homebrew kit than anything else. Hopefully Beaver Street can get their act together as this is the second thing I've had from them and the second disappointment as well.

Appearance: clear dark copper in color with a 1/2" that falls to a spotty surface foam. No lacing develops.

Smell: light caramel is all you can pull from the glass.

Taste: big malt profile with some caramel, ripe red fruits, and moderate bitterness. Flavorful and solid version in the style.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Smooth from start to finish. Aftertaste is short-lived.

Drinkability: this is a definite session beer that can be consumed all night.

I had this on tap at the brew pub in Flagstaff, AZ. I was a very light red color, and could be mistaken almost for a Pale or a Wheat. I didn't detect much of an aroma, and most of the taste consisted of hops with maybe a little bit of apple tone to it.

strong apple-apricot aroma comes off the ale before tasting. light head on a ruddy peach body, almost looks like a whisky. On first meeting with the taste buds, has strong ale flavor and a tang of sweetness. After a few, refines to a more subtle mouthfeel with apricot highlights. Enjoyed it enough to get a growler to enjoy again!

Sampler, reviewed from 2001 notes. I didn't write down too much about this, but I'll consider it that as a sign that there was really nothing wrong with it. Just a good clean ale taste with a pleasing aroma. Went down well. Beaver Street doesn't get as much notice being as it's among three brewpubs within a holler of each other in downtown Flagstaff, but I certainly enjoyed it.

Clear, light caramel to copper in color with a thin white head and poor retention and lacing. Aroma is lightly malty with mild, fruity hops. Taste begins with moderate intensity maltiness with a distant corn note, followed by hints of wet grain sack and ending in a moderate herbal bitterness with a lightly toasty wet finish and touches of caramel. Mouthfeel is soft with mild carbonation.
