Pours a deep gold color bordering on turning amber. Small white head. Aroma was that of earthy spicey hops, not floral citrus hops. Flavor was on the bitter side and was not well balanced. Needs more malt to sweeten this beer into an IPA. More like an strong american pale in my opinion than an IPA. It was all bitterness and no flavor. CO2 was good. Very light belgian lacing.

As the reviewer before me notes, the brewpub refers to this beer as Hop Shot IPA.

It arrives a crystal clear amber color with a decent inner orange glow. The head is off-white and is replaced by a consistent film and decent lacing.
The smell is of sweet pink grapefruit with honeysuckle notes and caramel malt sweetness. The flavor also has grapefruits, but they're more bitter than sweet on the tongue. I also get orange blossoms against a bready backbone. The bitterness is well-controlled. It hits pretty hard but does not linger long in the aftertaste.

It certainly went well with the soft pretzels and spicy beer-laden cheese.

I had this on tap at Beaver Street Brewery. I believe the menu said it was called Hopshot IPA.

Appearance- amber color, thin head

Smell- hops, very nice

Taste- hops, very nice and refreshing

Mouthfeel- medium bodied

Drinkability- I thought this was really good. It was so refreshing.

Appearance: clear orange in color with a 2" head. Some thick lace developed during the session.

Smell: caramel and a hearty bitterness rose from the glass and was easily detectable.

Taste: nice malt profile here with some caramel, soft grapefruit, a hint of pine, and a decent but not overpowering bitterness level.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with some mild dryness late. Aftertaste focuses on the bitterness that lingers around the longest.

Drinkability: easy quaffing IPA. Not mind-blowing, but just a solid IPA that hits the spot.

It started with a beautiful, medium-tan head, but before I could pick it up, the head was gone! Aaarrrggh! The nose had a fragrant citrusiness which could be naught but Cascade. Yeah, man. The color was a medium-amber with NE-quality clarity. The mouthfeel was medium, approaching full, with a really good hop bite on the tongue. The finish made the hop monkey on my back run away and hide. Next up - a mainline of liquefied hops. Gimme dem hops, yo!

I had this on tap at the brew pub in Flagstaff, AZ. It was deep copper colored with a thin bubbly head and some lacing. It smelled mainly of bitter hops, but not as strongly as other IPAs. I didn't taste or smell much complexity other than hops, so the taste, of course, was mainly of...hops! Great for a hophead.

Da Boss and I escaped the 110 degree temps for a day yesterday and wound up at Beaver Street for a little lunch and a cold one after a day of hiking and enjoying Arizona 89A thru Oak Creek Canyon.
Beer was a yellow orange color with an OK head. Nose was of citrusy floral hops and malts. Taste was of grapefruit, malts, and finished was pretty well balanced until the big hops hit me upside the head! Mouthfeel was pretty good for the style, fairly full and decently carbonated. Drinkability was pretty good, nice and refreshing. This is a classic West Coast IPA and is definitely worth a try!

Revewed a sampler taste, from my 2001 notes. Yes, very hoppy, with the requisite American northwestern hop note. A thin head like one expects from the style. Still manages to finish with a good aftertaste. It kind of runs "average" across the board.

A light copper colored IPA. Good malt taste, not very hoppy. More in the English style than a West Coast IPA. Good balance. Excellent flavor. Full body. Mouthfeel is smooth and full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste has a nice bitter/hoppy bite, but it takes a while to appear. Subtle character

Clear golden brew forming a thin white head with OK retention and lacing. Carbonation is medium. Aroma is of grapefruity hops with notes of grapes and red apples. Taste is again citrusy hops with alot of character and delicately balanced malts, almost falling out of balance. The finish is very dry, lightly toasted, and potently bitter (a little too strong for my preferences in IPA's). Mouthfeel is smooth wih a suprisingly light body. Good across the board, but nothing standout.

Not hoppy enough in aroma and flavor IMO, this would be a pale ale at many other places. Would it last on an unrefrigerated boat ride to India?

Pours with a little more yellow than amber (Red Hook's Ballard Bitter IPA comes to mind.) Medium body and medium alcohol warmth make this less challenging and more drinkable than something with a big hop bite. Crisp dry finish. A "gateway" IPA?
