Bottle from The Situation, served at home in a tulip glass. Red colouor, almost no head and no lacing. Aroma is woody, bretts, vinegar, caramel, dark and red fruits, a bit of cocoa. Medium body, creamy texture, flat carbonation. Sour finish. Taste is sour, a bit of vanilla, dark and red fruits, vinegar, caramel, grapes. Very good.

Hors Serie Oud Bruin from Les Trios Mousquetaires. Purchased 12/11/20 for $ 14.80 (Including tax and discount) for 25.4 oz cork and cage bottle ($ 0.583 oz) from State Line Liquor, Elkton, MD. On shelf at store and stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 8/1/21.
Undated bottle. Served at 54.6 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 55.5 degrees. Opens with a distinct “POP”.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Deep amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby brown (SRM 24), opaque. When held to direct light, beautiful ruby/garnet and clear. The inside of the bottle appears etched or coated with growth. Layer of sediment in bottom.
Head – Large (Maximum 6.2 cm, aggressive center pour), buff, medium density but rapidly becoming less dense, short retention, leaving a 1.5 to two mm crown fed by effervescence, and a thin rocky partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.5 – Initially sweet and malty, no hops, no yeast. Quickly yields to sourness and oak. Toward the end, a bit of brown sugar wafts by.
Flavor – 4.5 – Excellent sour oakiness, no hops, no yeast. No alcohol (7 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, watery, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deduction 0.25 point for undated container). The rear label says “Aging Potential 3 -5 years” but without a bottling date … Still, this is a lovely brew, despite its average appearance and palate – the nose and flavors are near-perfect.

Bought in 2017 at a local beer store in Montreal, PQ for about 9$. Bottled 11-04-2017 (lot 701). Stored at room temp for 3 years and drank in mid-2020.
Appearance: Dark like the night. Some bubbles. Looks like a really dark root beer. Some head that dissipates rapidly.
Aroma: Doesn't smell like root beer although maybe very mildly reminiscent of it somewhere in there. Funky/barn animals. Very mildly of diaper/urine. Barley.
Taste: Sour hits you first. Lots of different flavors coming around and slapping you around. Some slight maltiness cutting through the sour in the middle. Coffee/Chocolate/Oats underneath it all on the finish. Like a light summer barleywine in some ways.
Palate: Tangy, medium. Like a light barleywine. Leaves a bitter taste at the end like black coffee.
Overall: Wow. This thing was a real ride. For me this was like a layered cake: a complex mix of a sour, ale, and a stout. It certainly was a real treat that I would recommend. It's purported to be "vinous" or "wine-like" In some ways yeah I do agree. Like a sour red wine. Being especially tart makes it a bit hard to drink fast (like sour green apple tart), but very drinkable nonetheless.

Pours mostly clear ruby red dark maroon brown with a creamy beige khaki colored foam head. Smells like acetic red wine, oak, balsamic vinegar, dark fruit, caramel malts, toffee, molasses, chocolate, with dusty herbal earthy floral hops. Tastes like acetic red wine, oak barrel, rich caramel malt, toffee, molasses, mild chocolate, dark dried fruits, dusty barnyard, with floral earthy herbal hops. Feels medium bodied, slick with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a nice barrel-aged sour brown ale.

A - Pours the classic Cola colour with a head that dies quick, true to the style.
S - Very oaky aromas with vinegar tones with a subtle underlying maltiness
T – Very sour woody notes with a slight cherry and dark fruit aftertaste. This is sour
M – Light body and fullish carbonation
O – Well what a treat this is definitely up there with the best versions of this style and is perhaps more sour than the Rodenbach Grand Cru

Poured into a tall tulip, the appearance was a semi-dark rustic brown color in the glass. More of a ruddy burnt orange/dark copper color in the pour. Left a mild eggshell white foamy film of a head. Lace slid with the sips.
The aroma had an insane amount of variety of different apples ranging from the sweet side of Red Delicious to Cortland's to Granny Smith sour/tart characters and luscious Empires and Macouns. Then this beer takes a spectacular turn running into a beautiful toasty malt base with some oaky warm woody crisp barrel underlying tones.
The flavor blended extremely well rolling all of those sour, tart, sweet and malty brown hints into each other very nicely. Sticky sour to tart and a touch of sweet toasty note in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Good carbonation with some stickiness but not cloying. Fairly smooth on the finish with some acidity and a fair amount of dryness but mostly pretty nice!
Overall, boy oh boy, did I pick out a real gem for tonight! I'd definitely have again.

A: The beer is very dark reddish brown in color. It poured with a short off white color head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of vinegar are present in the nose. Notes of oak become noticeable as the beer begins to warm up.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of vinegar along with notes of oak and hints of sour cherries.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite acidic but I liked the interplay between the sourness, cherries and oak.

Solid old world style from a new world brewery who seems to nail the history styles. Great maltiness and sour with just enough tannins fr the barrels to complete the full affect. Definitely ately worth the reasonable price of entry.

750ml bottle poured into pint glass.
Pours a slightly hazy rich brown with one finger of hot chocolate head that leaves sheets of sticky lace as it recedes.
Smells of cherry juice, vinegar, brown sugar Christmas cookies, barrel wood, soft cheese and mild leafy hops.
Tastes of cold cherry pie, sour grapes, sour candy apples, lemon, red wine vinegar, chocolate covered raisins, wine barrel staves, gently cheesy funk and more dreamy hops.
Feels round and soft. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes dry.
Verdict: Vigorously recommended Very tasty and in a nice big bottle for good measure.
