A dark wheat beer, hearty and top-fermented, inspired by the style traditionally brewed in Munich, Germany. This Weizenbock will seduce you with its lush flavors reminiscent of candied fruits, banana, and maple syrup.

Served in a hurricane tulip glass (older batch labeled 10.5

Appearance: Deep orange colored haY body with an off white head rising almost one fingers length off the body.

Smell: Because of the extra cold temperature
the brew leaves light aromatic pilsner malt scent to the nose.

Taste: Sweet caramel with hints of toasted bread. Malty yet the mellow sugars offset euro lager feel that the brew

Mouth: very sticky body with a strong carbonation. Can you think of maple syrup mashed with a very lightly salted beagle sticking to the roof of your mouth.

Overall: a very One of a kind beer that sexy you like french fries to a hamburger.

750ml bottle poured into tulip.

After removing an extremely stubborn cork, it pours a hazy brick amber with two fingers of tan head that leaves some decent chunky lace as it recedes.

Smells of maple syrup, roasted wheat malt, candied raisins, dried apricot, toasted walnuts, banana bread with chocolate chips and some soft nutmeg and clove.

Tastes of maple doughnuts, sticky banana bread, more raisin and apricot trail mix, milk chocolate, more roasted nuts and mild spicy yeast.

Feels rich and chewy. Full bodied with subdued carbonation. Finishes sticky.

Verdict: Vigorously recommended. Big, delicious and perfect for movie night.

750 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. 2018 edition, I think, also 10.5%. Had 5/11/19.

Pours a dark, ruddy color, semi opaque, with a half inch foamy head and slick, foamy lacing. Aromas of caramel, malt, dates, cherries, raisins, brown sugar, some yeast, light black pepper when warm. Flavors of caramel, malt, figs, raisins, dates, yeast, light plums and cherries, brown sugar. Smooth, semi- dry, a very good medium body, well carbonated.

I missed the hints of banana and maple, but what I did get from it was really good. Great caramel aroma and flavor, the overall flavor is more expressive. Well balanced. Well worth a purchase.

75 cl. corked bottle. Served in a balloon glass at Las Buenas Pulgas. Brown reddish colour, minimum head with short retention, almost no lacing. Aroma of red fruits, apples, bananas, wood alcohol. Medium to full body, creamcorkedy texture, flat carbonation. Sweet fruity finish. Taste of apples, red fruits, bananas, Porto wine, spices. Wonderful.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter. 10.5%.
A: Pours a light caramel brown with some amber-gold hues around the edges with backlighting. Nice 1 inch light tan head quickly dissipates.
S: Caramel malt, fruity banana esters, warming spice (cinnamon, nutmeg), raisin, and hints of toffee and vanilla. Good strength to the aroma.
T: Banana esters with caramel malt hit first, quickly followed by raisins, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, and toffee. Quite sweet. Ah...hold that...definitely let this one warm up. With warming, the taste improves dramatically. I started at about 50 F and it took about 10 minutes to warm and open up, allowing for a very different experience. Earthy and smoky notes emerges with warming. Some mild sweet tobacco and leather too. The peppery spice becomes stronger and helps balance the sweetness.
M: Light medium body. Initially there were loads of sugary sweetness (a bit too much for me). With warming, this balances out. More peppery spice emerges, the sweetness isn't as sharp, and it is much more soft and oily in feel.
D: OK, here's the key--let it warm up! Be patient! It truly transforms the brew and creates a markedly improved experience. Great late winter/early spring sipper.

My first from Les Trois Mousquetaires. This Grand Cuvee is good enough to seek again and I will try others from them.
No weakness in this ale... but also lacks a WOW factor. Possibly a bigger yeast will WOW me next year. My bottle was 10.5%.
Maybe that improved it? Regardless, barely detectable alcohol and well-balanced throughout with lots of dark fruits and it never gets sweet. Very soft and full in the mouth. For all this, I give this Weizenbock a substantially above average rating.

Bottle dated 18/01/2017 (almost a year old) poured into a stemless snifter-like glass at fridge temp.

Look: pours a dark, almost opaque, coca-cola or root-beer-like drink with a deep ruby-red tinge. Some mocha colored head and some lacing.

Smell: Maple, coffee, root beer, figs, chocolate, floral wine-like.

Taste: Caramel, oak, toffee, coffee, chocolate. Perhaps a bit of peat or smoke. Sweet taste. A real bold kicker. Very different than the styles I usually drink. Reminds me of a stout or porter. Some spices, a slight bitterness which is nothing like a hop-bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat sticky, sweet finish, medium-heavy body. Seems like a good drink for a cold winter's night. Very little carbonation feel, probably covered up by the boldness and heaviness of the drink.

Overall: Not generally my type of style. I'm not a sweet-coffee-like drink person. I think for the style it offers something nice and unique, but isn't my taste. It balances well with little bite, nonetheless, it's still a strong drink. Is on the sweet, sticky, and heavy side. Almost like a meal in a glass. Slightly warming in the stomach and at 10.5% the alcohol hits quickly (I usually drink quickly when writing reviews, taking many quick sips in a short time).

I didn't rate it too high because it was not to my taste. Could barely finish a glass. To me it's like a stale and flat glass of root-beer. But it was nice to have a heavy drink since a while, as I've been drinking lots of cheap beer lately.

Poured into weizen glass, the appearance was a dark ruby red color with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated at a moderate pace. Some clingy foamy messy lace. The aroma brings together some clove, apple cider, raisins, caramel and sweet wheat up front. Light dark chocolate and then a light fig-like to molasses sweetened wheat bread comes in nicely. The flavor melds the spice to the sweet through all of the previously mentioned aromas. Seems like a bit of mulled cider comes through in the taste. Wheaty to semi-sticky sweet aftertaste biting into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about medium on the body, maybe just a touch under. Carbonation seems a bit more than expected. And with the spices coming across the way they do, this one seems to be a bit harsher on my tongue than some other weizenbocks I’ve had. Overall, for the most part, aroma and flavor is what really makes this beer great. The mouthfeel, well, it’s a bit more than expected. I could still have again.

Les Trois Mousquetaires Microbrasseurs Grande Cuvée Weizenbock"
25.4 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, corked & caged, no apparent freshness dating
$10.54 @ Beverage Warehouse, Winooski, VT

With the yeast pour, LTM's weizenbock pours a cloudy russet brown body beneath an initially foamy head of yellowed off-white that slowly settles into a creamy cap. Prior to the yeast it's mainly clear, and to my eye more attractive, but the yeast softens and rounds the flavor a bit so I prefer it that was.

The aroma offers golden caramel, medium caramel, and dark caramel with a combination of both red and dark fruits.

In the mouth it's full to medium-full in body with a dextrinous edge, and gently bristling then creamy with a fine-bubbled, slightly above standard level carbonation.

The flavor follows suit, and although the initial sips are dominated by a rich caramel maltiness, the dark and red fruits (and some green banana) emerge once the palate has adjusted. Some minor leafy and floral hops can be found in the background but it's really about the rich caramelish malt and the Bavarian yeast. It's not particularly bitter, but the spiciness of the yeast, and perhaps its 10.5% ABV lend a hand in drying the finish.

Although it meets the BJCP guidelines for a Weizenbock in terms of bitterness and color, the starting gravity, final gravity, and subsequent ABV are all higher. It's really more of a 'barley wine-esque' Weizenbock that's deserving of sipping status. I enjoyed it while preparing to grill in the backyard mid-summer, but I also thought it would be great with a good book an a cold winters night. Regardless of when you drink it, it's exceptional!
