A: An amber color with a very slight haze. Topped with about a finger and a half of creamy looking very slightly beige head. Lacing and retention were fantastic with each sip leaving a noticeable mark behind.

S: Slightly spicy and grapefuity. A lot of sweet malt comes through as well though.

T: Not as hoppy as I would have expected but this is good. For once a pale ale is a pale ale and not a low ABV IPA. I get a fair bit of caramel type malt along with a slight bread like note, the base of a great PA. Some grapefruit hops but also some spicy flavors come through. Very well balanced and no one thing stands out too much.

M: Creamy, smooth and pretty easy going. Carbonation might be a tad high but overall pretty good.

O: This is a great example of what a pale ale should be IMO. It has the nice malty backbone but also offers some great hop flavor and aroma too, both equally balanced and complimenting of each other.

haven't tried one of their brews in quite some time

very nice appearance. Deep copper orange, very cloudy, with lot's of of fine carbonation bubbles. Amazing, rich creamy head.

Pale malts, a nice fruitiness with hints of clove and allspice come to mind when smelling this brew

Solid malt backbone, appropriately hopped without going overboard. The added spiciness is an inspired touch.

Solid medium mouthfeel with an almost smooth creamy character

I really liked their interpretation of the style. Well crafted and nicely balanced.

Appearance: It has a nice deep hazy orange color to it. It has a nice off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of floral hops, citrus, grapefruit, some pine, caramel and biscuity malts.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some floral hops, faint citrus and grapefruit, a piney/grassy bitterness, sweet caramel and biscuity malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Lots of yummy cereal and spice notes on the nose. Yep, by "Americaine" they mean hopped-up. The billowing white head is enormous and the beer is clear orangey-copper. All the hops promised in the nose is delivered in the mouth--tons of citrus rind and exotic spice. Still pretty well balanced. An excellent pale ale that almost drinks like a low ABV IPA.

Poured from a 375ml. bottle, bottled 06/2012.

Appearance: Honey colored body with a massive head that is neither slow nor fast and leaves spotted lacing all around.

Smell: Leafy, floral hops, citrusy (think lemon) and fresh-cut grass.

Taste: White grapes, grassy and ever so mild grapefruit. Nice orange notes in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Easy to take bitterness (read: low) and ends very clean and abruptly. The feel doesn't linger very much.

Overall: Disappointed with this one. Billed as an American pale ale, i would expect more guts to it. I've had APAs that weren't aggressive but were better than this. It's ok but you can do better.

750ml bottle. Yet again, one of those shitty, impossible to open corked bottles, until you break out the pliers from the storage room - boo!

This beer pours a hazy, dark reddish amber hue, with two fat fingers of chunky foamy off-white head, which leaves some sparse spider web lace around the glass as it sulks away.

It smells of sharp caramelized malts, a bit of hearty menthol, and strong leafy, grassy hops. The taste is hefty bitter, herbal hops, warm pale malt, and a weird lurking booziness, given the proclaimed standard strength ABV.

The bubbles are here and there, and generally non-consequential, the body an understated medium weight, and not all that smooth, given the strange swirling indistinct and zingy new-world spiciness.

Wow, what a mind-fuck of a beer. Here I'm expecting a mellow, slightly hoppy pale ale, but instead I get a weirdly spicy affair - askew without the heat or alcohol, if you can imagine. Not really what I wanted right now, I guess.

A pleasant surprise! Purchased after Mondial in June and should probably not have been stored this long, but waiting for "a special occasion" and it has held up remarkably well.

Orange-hued amber with decent cappuccino-coloured head. Mouthfeel is decent, but unremarkable. Aroma of caramelized malts and citrus hop elements is really nice, but unfortunately these same hop flavours don't translate into the taste.

Flavour is pleasant, but not as well balanced as I'd choose. The finish is sharp and bitter, without the anticipated tropical fruit. Would have liked to try this fresh, as if it has sweetened and/or mellowed with age, it must have been quite a beast to start!

Bottle from Broue HAHA. From notes.

A - Poured bright. Gold to dark gold with strong carbonation and a two finger off white head. Very loose head with soapy bubble bath appearance. Good half finger of retention with good chunks of lacing.

S - Pine and crackers. A little floral. Strong pine.

T - Pine and a little caramel with creackers and citrus. Grapefruity. More complex than the aroma.

M - Apropriate carbonation, should be a little more bitter with just about none there. Medium body.

O/D - Quite nice. No complaints, just a good APA.

750ml corked & caged bottle purchased from Adelaide Bier Shop and split 3 ways, with my share poured into a 7oz glass. Have been sitting on this for some time - would not be surprised if it was a year or year and a half - so hop fade was a pre-opening concern.

Pours an orange copper colour with a beige head of tiny-bubbled foam that has a touch of light yellow about it. Plenty of foam present and it stays around for quite a while.

Initial aroma is of citrus and a touch floral. After opening the smell is pretty hard to come by.

Taste is quite herbal on the mid to late palate with a herbal bitter kicker at the end. Upfront there is some burnt caramel flavour. Some malty sweetness also comes in as it warms.

Mouthfeel is quite big compared to style and from what i expected. Some harsh bitterness finishes this one off.

Overall, i suspect that age was not its friend, not should it be. If that isn't the case it was a pretty average APA.
