A - deep copper brown, nice tall tan bubbly tan head that retained and laced well
S - spicy herbal hops are prominent, nutty smoky malts, some hints of tobacco and citrus
T - the spice, herb, and slight smoky flavours up front, there is some nuttiness, then the hop bitterness leaves a dry and even salty taste
M - thin and somewhat bubbly, but as advertised the dry bitterness is high, reminding me of haven eaten some kind of salt cured meat
D - i'm generally a fan of the more bitter offerings, this is good but a little too far in that respect to be very drinkable, while the flavours are interesting it does not have thirst quenching properties

A: A very clear darker amber color. One finger of tan beige head. Great lacing as well as retention.

S: A bit hoppy but lots of cereal malt and raisiny bready aromas are present as well.

T: Pretty interesting actually. The hops present themselves as spicey with a slight citrus zest. Malt dominates the main profile of the beer though. Raisiny, bready, and to a lesser extent toasted. Sweet but balanced accurately and has a good bitterness.

M: Very thin mouthfeel but its okay. Somewhat lower carbonation.

O: Good beer overall. I would by again if the price was right. Interesting as Alt's are one of those styles that I feel doesn't get enough exposure.

From a 750 ml bottle to a pint glass.

A: this beer pours a deep rust red with a persistent thumbs worth of fluffy white head. There is ample carbonation visible in the beer, and the head lasts forever. As the beer goes down you are left with thick lacing and a persistent head.

S: the dominant smell is bready malts, but caramel and hops can also be detected along with some spices.

T: bready malts are up front, but the hops are far more dominant on the taste than they are on the nose. The finish combines the bitter of the hops with the sweet of the malts for a nice memory on the tongue.

M: higher carbonation and a medium body.

O: my first experience with the style, I did not know what to expect. I am not sure whether I would purchase another bottle, but I am not unhappy with this beer. I think I need to enjoy more beers in the style for a better feel.

375ml bottle. Stange glass. Deep amber color, foggy appearance. Yellowish off-white froth creates a close, foamy & lasting crown leaving lacing on sides. Caramel, Munich malt & fudge chocolate intense aromas. As expected from aromas, sweet toasted upfront yields to chocolate flavors. Full body. Soft carbonation. Viscous palate. Hints of toasted biscuit & bread, herbal notes & dried nut touch. Long & smooth sweet/bitter finish. Nuts are back on the aftertaste. Solid malty backbone holds hoppiness in well balance, despite its high IBU profile. Nice spot of the Sticke Style: hoppier - but bitterness remains clean- & more caramelish maltiness -but no cloying at all- than a regular Alt & finally a well integrated ABV. Flavorful & delicious!! A masterpiece.

Glass: Ayinger willi glass

I'm not sure Trois Mousequeitaries knows what they're doing or where they're going with this beer. They used several of the "wrong" malt styles (crystal malts, whereas original alt brewers didn't have access to these), hopped it to extreme levels (while alts, and in particular sticke and doppelsticke can be highly hopped, 70+ IBUs is a bit extreme), and I'm not sure about the yeast strain. These wouldn't matter except to the purist if the taste were either interesting or authentic, but it is neither, really. A bit of over-roasted caramel malts lend some fairly week burnt toast and cocoa elements atop a rather bland, mostly dry base that leads into light bitter and herbal hop flavor: uninspiring and unexciting. This is a fairly recent arrival in my area (past month), with the new Trois Mousqueitaires bottle labels, so I doubt it's old. Rather overrated, I'm not impressed with this, especially given the price ($11 per bottle). A shame, considering that Trois Mousquetaires makes (made?) a very good kellerbier and doppelbock.

Pours a 2cm tall head of small bubbles, frothy in appearance and beige in color, with excellent retention of several minutes. The head fades, in time, to a thin film of lace atop the body for the duration of the session. Lacing is excellent, with many dots and patterns clinging to the sides of the glass. Body is a muddy brown to very dark golden orange in color, with light revealing more of the golden orange hues around the edges of the otherwise still muddy brown base. Carbonation slightly visible through the nearly opaque (70-80% opacity) body, low in number, but moderate in activity.

Aroma of light caramel, toasted that is slightly charred, a bit of herbal and floral continental hops in the close. Not bad, but certainly underwhelming for a sticke alt.

Taste of dark caramel malt, slightly charred toast, a whisp of cocoa, and moderate bitterness and herbal flavor from hops: the mixture is rather underwhelming. Front of palate is of dark caramel-like sweetness, cocoa, a bit of charred toast, and faint, herbal hops. Mid-palate of dry, slightly sweet caramel-like flavors with bitter cocoa (from the 120L caramel malt) and medium-strength hop bitterness and flavor of dry grass and herbs. Back of palate is of moderate hop bitterness mixed with acridness from the nearly-roasted malts, a touch of cocoa and mild dark caramel-like sweetness. Aftertaste of dry and mild to medium hop bitterness with a bit of dry cocoa and dark caramel-like sweetness.

Beer is medium to meidum-light in body, with carbonation of medium to medium-low intensity, leading to a mouthfeel that is lightly foamy (1/3) and otherwise smooth (2/3). Generally soft and smooth, this manages to fit well with the profile of the beer and the style. Closes very dry, with heavy stickiness clinging to the palate and lips.

Appearance: It has a nice rusted brownish/amber color to it. It has a nice beige head that dies down slowly and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of bready malts, caramel, floral hops, a slight nuttiness and some earthiness.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has bready malts, sweet caramel, floral/earthy hops and faint nuts.

Mouthfeel: It has a med/high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.
