375ml bottle. Weizen glass. Tropical fruit intense aromas fly at the moment cap is removed. Bright gold color, clear appearance. White froth, close & lasting crown. Some lacing is left on sides. Heavy hoppiness, citric, resins & intense herbal to the nose as well as honey hues rounded by subtle banana peel notes & underlying bread. Crispy upfront is swept out by citric & piney notes. Light body. Moderate but lively carbonation. Bready texture & fresh mouthfeel. Fruity –some mango hints- flavor, dried touch & bitterness arise in the middle lingering into a long sweet finish. Nice hues of green wood on a dried aftertaste. Gentle lightness & texture as a Weizen but dried & hopped as an AIPA!!

A: Golden in color and just a bit cloudy. One finger of creamy white head. Retention was moderate as was lacing.

S: I get a bit of the typical wiesse smell (Clove, a touch of bannana) blended nicely with some american hops that lean towards citrus. A bit of alcohol if you really search for it too.

T: A bit of sweet malt come through forming the body. This is counter balanced by a nice hop profile. A bit tropical but the hops seem somewhat faded, which is probably a result of it sitting too long in my fridge. It probably would have been much hoppier fresh but it had some nice tropical almost pineapple notes along with the typical grapefruit taste of west coast american hops. I also get some nice clove, bread and a bit of spice from the yeast.

M: Perfect for a refreshing beer. High carbonation but it really makes for a refreshing beer.

O: Really good beer but probably would have been much nicer fresh. I would highly consider buying it again.

From notes

Appearance: It has a nice hazy orange color to it. It has a nice off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves little lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of wheat malts, citrus, floral hops and some grassy notes.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some wheat, citrus (orange & lemon) floral/grassy hops and faint spices.

Mouthfeel: It has a high carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

An interesting beer. Flavourful and well balanced.

Looks good, hazy honey gold under a decent frothy, soapy white head. Leaves substantial lace most of the way down. Handsome.

Aroma is subdued, but fruity. Citrus and passion fruit. Sweet and malty. Wheat and yeast. Lots of things happening here, very appetizing.

Big fruity, hoppy mouthful. Noticeable sweetness from malts. Citrus hops and bitter finish. Very different front to back. Again. lots of interesting things happening.

Definitely worth a try.

A nice American-style twist to an established beer standard. As hefeweizen aren't a flavour I choose regularly, this beer is much more up my alley than many! Dated 01/04/2013 (April? Jan?) and have no doubt the hops would have been even more impressive if opened sooner.

Pours a hazy dark golden colour, with much of the sediment coming out with the last inch of beer. Despite a lack of "pop" when the cork opened, still a good amount of carbonation in the bottle with a large, open-bubbled white head. Aroma is wheat-forward, with a hint of "west coast" style citrus in the background. Imagine this would have been more pronounced when the beer was fresh. Complex flavour has depth as well as a well balanced mixture of sweet and bitter. Has a nice malt and wheat backbone for an initial sweetness with the tropical fruit notes of Summit and Cascade (as listed on the bottle - as personally all I can distinguish is the more pleasing "American" versus "German").

Enough traditional wheat and yeast flavours, including the expected banana, orange peel and coriander, to appeal to hefe fans plus the added bonus of west-coast style hops for someone like me. Expensive, but a beer I'd recommend!
