375ml bottle into snifter. production date march 25, 2014, printed on the back label. consumed on july 22, 2014

a: a nice and vibrant apricot hue. under a finger of bubbly, non-foamy head that disappeared hastily

s: coriander and citrus fruits bounce off of each other up front -- lemon and orange. bits of wheat, bananas, peaches, and salt. this aroma hints at sourness too

t: a potent and fun sour presence up front with funk notes and coriander. pilsner malt, lemon, peach, orange, and wheat notes follow, but they're situated in the background as the spice and sourness still tower over at this point. finishes mildly salty. complex and interesting stuff

m: light-bodied, with a prickly carbonation that i feel complements the tartness

o: i was really excited to crack open my first gose ever and it didn't disappoint. the first sip was ridiculously sour, but of course there are many other dimensions to this beer, and they all opened up as i continued to drink it. it's funky, sour, and salty, but it's also light, tasty, and has a fantastic (albeit subdued) fruit profile. give this one a try

Trois Mousquetaires Gose is predictably cloudy; not only is the style left unfiltered but such a high percentage of wheat (typically 50-60%) ensures a good amount of protein and hence a thick, turbid complexion despite the rather light, yellow colour. Bubbles are abundant but head not so much; carbonation may seem active but it's evidently not very productive.

There's a reason spices like coriander were historically so expensive and universally sought after: their aromatics are ambrosial and unparalleled. A beer brewed with coriander, therefore, is correspondingly fragrant and boasts a seductively pungent perfume. There also seem to be notes of orange peel and citrus more generally. A drink that smells worthy of kings indeed.

Gose, like Berliner Weiss and for all the same reasons, is one style I'm surprised hasn't yet caught on the world over. It's immensely refreshing - far more so than the standard watered down and cloyingly sweet lager - and generally delivers all this refreshment in a manageable, medium-light frame. The fact that this one is a mere 3.8% alcohol is a bonus.

But seriously, is there any better beer for a hot, sunny summer day? It has zestiness courtesy of the ground coriander seeds as well as tart twang and quenching acidity from the Lactobicilicus. The saline quality is a kicker, the proverbial cherry on top, because, let's face it - the brain is hard-wired to crave salt. Taken with the soft graininess of the wheat, it's delightful.

To my knowledge the folks at Les Trois Mousquetaires are born and bred Quebecois, but they have the technical virtuosity and detailed craftsmanship of the best German brewers. Add Gose to a list that already included Doppelbock, Maibock, Rauchbier, Hopfenweisse, and Oktoberfest and you've got the best German lineup made outside of Germany. Hands down.

Appearance: colour of mango flesh, with a fine white head that fades to a thin layer after a minute

Aroma: orange, clementine - the sweeter citrus fruits; coriander, very fresh

Taste & Mouthfeel: interesting sour, salty, sweet mash-up, all fighting for attention; lemon, sour green grapes, wheat cracker, and lightly herbal from the coriander; light body and crisp, dry mouthfeel; the lingering tartness has a cleansing feel; it's simple but executed very well, super fresh

Overall: get a sense of purity and cleansing - like this beer is doing something good for you. Certainly doing something good for my tastebuds. Great for summer afternoons

Preface: Let me first start by saying this is my first "Gose". I'm not a massive fan of sours thus far and know little and have little of the styles. This is the opinion of a sour noob so don't take it too seriously.

A: A hazy golden color. Moderate head retention but little lacing.

S: Corainder for sure. Some salt as well. Bakers yeast and a touch of tartness. A strange aroma like no other beer I've smelled.

T: Coriander is pretty present coming forward as lemony. A bit of salt in the finish. Slightly bready .The sourness is really what kills it for me. It just seems like spoiled home brew. It's not exactly "sour" per say but more funky and strange tasting. There is a bit of tartness though. The aftertaste makes me want to drain pour honestly.

M: Light bodied with slightly higher carbonation.

O: I'm sorry but maybe Gose just isn't my style. I poured it. I'm sure this is a great example of the style but it's just not for me.

Appearance: It has a nice merky gold color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down moderately fast and leaves no lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of tart lemons, coriander, some wheat and a light breadiness.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has sour lemons upfront, some coriander, wheat malts, bready notes and a touch of salt.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.
