I've got to be honest....I didn't think anything out of Ann Arbor could be good....especially their football team! However, I was mistaken to a point....while the football team is crap....this Hellion DIPA is quite good. The beer poured a copperish clear with thin white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent has fresh hops with a nice mix of pine and citrus. The taste is well balanced with malt and hops. There is enough pine and citrus to make this a very enjoyable ale even at 9.99% abv (that's what my bottle says). The mouthfeel is full body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is one heck of a beer and perhaps the best thing to ever come out of Ann Arbor.

I had this on tap at Jolly Pumpkin Cafe and Brewery in Ann Arbor.

A: Served in a tulip glass. Golden orange. Two fingers of head with pretty lacing throughout.
S: Citrus hops in the nose.
T: The citrus hops hit you up front. Then more hops. Somewhat bitter, alcoholic aftertaste. Not very well-balanced. This needs more malt!
M: Medium-bodied. Smooth and a little sticky.
D: Not very drinkable. The alcohol is not hidden well at all. It took me half an hour (or more) to drink one glass, which is unusual for me with a IIPA.

I'd classify this as a mediocre IIPA. If Grizzly Peak adds more malt to their next batch, it would have potential!
