Our tribute to a Scottsman who in the 1870's brought the Black Angus to Kansas. This American style stout is made wtih a special blend of six different malts and hops from the Pacific Northwest. We then use nitrogen carbonation to create a rich and creamy brew wtih a wonderful roasted flavor.

Pours a black color. 3/4 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of dry hop, slight roasted malt, sweet malt, grain, and a hint of pale malt. Fits the style of an American Stout. Mouth feel is nitro-smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of pale malt, and a hint of grain. Overall, great appearance, good aroma, blend, and body.

Appearance: Solid black heavy body with very thick and dense onefinger head. Laces ok.

Smell: Pretty much only brunt toasty smell.

Taste: A coffee and chocolate taste. Toasty barley flavors and creamy.

Mouthfeel: Nice creamy and smooth feel.

Drinkability: Would drink like a session beer if not for the heaviness factor.

A - Poured an opaque, jet black color with a thick, creamy, foamy, tan head. It left soapy patches of lace.

S - It smelled of roasted barley, chocolate and some slight floral notes.

T - It tasted of sweet, roasted malt. Nice caramel, toffee and molasses flavors.

M - It was smooth and creamy. A medium bodied beer.

D - This is a really nice stout. One of their best regular brews.

Very smooth nitro-keg Stout. Much better than Guinness off the Nitro-keg, but not as good as a regular quality stout.

Very imposing solid black brew with a giant head. No aroma to speak of at all. The flavor is better though, smooth creamy coffee notes. Nice balance of malt and toasty notes.

I think there is some oatmeal in this which is a nice touch.

Served in a 16oz pint glass at Little Apple B.C. 6/2/07. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

A: Typical dark black stout-y color with a dark tan head. Very sticky lace coating the glass.

S: Notes of roasted and burnt malt.

T: Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and a lactose sweetness.

M: Smooth and very creamy lactose mouthfeel rounded out nicely by the bitter finish.

D: A nice easy drinking stout. Enjoyable.

Part of a sampler at the brewery - pours very dark brown, with a thick-creamy tan head. Smells of coffee and smoky roasted oak-malt. The taste is overwhelmed by the roasted malt, and loses the coffee and chocolate flavors, so it doesn't have a very complex taste, but is quite drinkable for a 6.5% stout.

The beige head is very dense, persistent and is reminescent of that of draft Guinness partly due to the nitrogen / CO2 mix. Light coffee - like roasted barley aroma, hop nose is virtually absent. Very dextrinous smooth mouthfeel and low apparent carbonation from the gas mix. The body is quite full and creamy due to the oats used in the grist. The malt profile is comprised of mellow chocolate malt notes and mild crystal malt sweetness. The roasted barley contributes a slight dry coffee note. Hop bitterness is sufficient enough to prevent any residual sweetness to assert itself. The finish is bittersweet and clean. It's been a while since I've had the stout (I usually drink the IPA) but really has improved. The mellow and pleasant roasted flavors are enjoyable, and the full body and 6.5% ABV make for a rich stout. Would be better if it weren't for the nitrogen / CO2 mix.
