Draft at the brewpub.
Pours a very hazy dark golden straw color with a one finger white foam head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind.
Intense agave and tequila barrel aroma with subtle buttery diacetyl but it's not harsh and doesn't overpower the other notes. Agave nectar sweetness with dry oak and a very prominent tequila presence. Doesn't smell boozy however with lots of citrus sweetness. Subtle peppery spice and farmhouse funk but these elements are overpowered by the tequila, oak, agave and citrus.
On the fuller end of medium body with very strong agave, sweet honey and tequila flavor. Saison character is stronger than in the aroma with peppery spice, ester-y light fruit and funky farmhouse yeast. The barrel character is nice but the oak is subtle. Tons of tequila flavor without being boozy or too hot. There is seriously no heat at all making his complex beer surprisingly drinkable. Strong citrus sweetness and agave flavor with a touch of grassy hop, peppery spice and earthy saison yeast. I haven't had too many tequila aged beers but this one is really good.

Catching up on notes from a little while back. Draft offering at the source. A farmhouse agava ale aged in tequila barrels. Well thats a first for me. The brew appears a clouded golden orange color with a white film.
The aroma includes trace amounts of tequilla while cold but with more of a vanilla and clove scent blended with a little citrus zest. As it warms up, the booze starts to show a little more.
The taste includes vanilla barrel flavors, oaken with almost a creamy orange zest appeal. The tequilla kick of alcohol is prevelant here with a contrasting fruity citrus note as well.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is strangely creamy and smooth yet spicy and warming. Very atypical of a saison in some regards and classic in others. My past experience with tequilla aged brews has been far from enjoyable. This was unique and interesting, executed very well.
